The Old Forge, Trafalgar Court

It was possible to walk into York from the property. It was located in a quiet area & had a private, grassy garden for the dog. The property had all the amenities we needed. There was a dog friendly pub nearby plus Rowntree park was just a short walk away, perfect for longer dog walks.

As advised by the owners, access to the parking beside the property is only for small cars, not advisable to take anything larger than a hatchback sized car round to the house. There was always plenty of parking nearby though. There were DVDs so bit disappointed not to find a DVD player & a small freezer would have been handy.

Positives: The property is in a great location , Particularly for the Races and York City Centre to be fair. The bed was okay and the bedding was very clean and to be fair the location was nice and quiet in the evening. email correspondence, et cetera from the host was very good..

Negatives : The dining area in the conservatory was extremely cold and clearly not very inviting to dine in & the table really needed a good polish. A coffee table or a couple of little side tables in the lounge would be a bonus . The fridge would benefit from a freezer section . The grouting in the bathroom really needs looking at and the bathroom cabinet has seen better days . The lounge carpet is really really stained and would benefit from a good wash or replacement . what I really don't get is that a lot of these concerns are very similar from other people who have stayed and have been similar observations in the last year Particularly the carpet downstairs issue. This could be a super super place to stay with some small TLC applied. We thought it would be great to book somewhere with a garden but really you couldn't sit out there as the furniture was a bit worn for want of a better word and there were no cushions for the seats which is a shame as this seemed to be a bonus when we booked it ..But it was just somewhat unusable . Laundry was left in the washing machine, which I don't get!! It just all seemed to be a bit basic for £130 per night. I do hope my comments will be seen as positive / constructive comments as I do think this could be a gem. Can't remember the last time I stayed anywhere that didn't have a bit of UHT milk or a packet of biscuits ..(not a biggie though) and in the great scheme of things, not a show stopper

Matt the host was kind and responsive. Place is located in a great place.

Unfortunately some antisocials slashed my car tyre. the car parking off street is generally safe otherwise.

Reasonable location and price.

Decor needs updating and living room carpet in particular is very stained. Although we had made it very clear that we required a travel cot, it was not made at all obvious where it was - we found it buried at the bottom of a cupboard.

The location was great, lovely walk along the river into the city. The house was comfy and well stocked with tea, coffee, sugar and cleaning items.

House could do with a proper clean, dust and cobwebs at back of double bed and at windows. Garden could do with some tlc, paths swept, grass cut, weeded between slabs and conservatory windows and doors cleaned and cobwebs removed. Garden furniture no cushions, take dirty and other chairs covered in cobwebs. Provide cushions and ask other furniture to be stored in conservatory after use not left outside. Great having a garden but we were unable to use it. Would be great to have a freezer, we visited when it was warm so not able to buy icecream or ice as only fridge provided. Provide kitchen roll in kitchen.

The property is located at the back of 2 alleys . I drive a transporter for work and was unable to get down either . I then had to carry everything from the transporter back and forth each morning and night as I cant leave my work equipment in the van . Hence why I always book with parking . Not great when you arrive late back and have to go up and down a dark alley ! The streets were difficult to park on as many had permit holders only . This should have been mentioned in the details ! Don’t book if you want parking and drive anything bigger than a mini !!

Lovely home away from home with all the facilities you need. Perfect location for going in to York. Free parking is great although due to very narrow access, larger car would need to be parked on the road.

Nothing, couldn’t fault it for the price!
