Very good house for a small group

The Old Forge offered all we needed for a weekend trip to York with two small children. The house was quite spacious and gave us enough room to play and have family time when we were in. Communication with the owners was always swift. Location was perfect, not too far from town centre and very quiet surroundings.

Although there was parking allocated we didn’t manage to park next to the house due to narrow roads, however we were advised upfront if that would be the case that there is free on road parking, which worked for us.

The space was just right for several people and it was great to have it be pet friendly so my daughter could bring her dog over. We loved having our own kitchen and two bathrooms. The fenced yard was also a bonus.

Property is close to the city - 15 min. walk. Well-equipped kitchen with dishwasher, washing machine, micro, Nespresso coffee machine, some tee and coffee. Owner communicated really well, checked on us if everything was ok.

The house is a bit dated. It was very cold when we arrived in the evening, but the heating was working well once we switched it on. One of the bedrooms is very small, there is only a bunk-bed in the room.

Great location easy walk into York city. Clean, quiet great communication with owners.

Small access driveway. Leave your car on the main road if you have a large car.

What a lovely little gem of a house this is, now wonder then that it is regularly booked up. Communication from Alice and Matthew was straight out of the top drawer. From booking confirmation to the required directions and check-in instructions to a welcome message and even checking in to make sure that everything was OK. The house is beautiful, warm, cosy, very clean, and tidy. Not a speck of dust to be seen anywhere. Everything you need is there for you. From cooking facilities to bathroom toiletries and posh shampoo too. If you drive a sherman tank, leave it parked on the street as you won't get it through the alleyway. If you drive a small corned beef tin on wheels, then you'll be fine parking in front of the house. York can be a pain for parking, but have no fear. There is a bus stop less than 5 minutes walk from the house. The number 11 bus takes you straight into the city centre and is close to The Shambles. Currently (10th December), you can get a return bus ticket for £8. If you need somewhere that is warm, cosy, and in a quiet place, then The Old Forge is where you need to be. It's just delightful.

Apart from the not-so polite weather, there was nothing to dislike.

Stains/marks on carpets and walls, furniture ripped and old, house smelled, unable to use the oven due to it being so filthy and smelly. Was not confident it was clean.
