Imakumano Terrace - Eisen An 潁川庵

Imakumano Terrace is the perfect Japanese house experience. We absolutely loved staying there for so many reasons: the location in a quiet and authentic neighbourhood of Kyoto, the charming alley in front of the house, the super functional house (there is absolutely everything that you could need). What makes this stay special is the place's host, Rachel: she went above and beyond to make our stay perfect. She filled the fridge and pantry with treats specially crafted for our family, lots of beauty products in the rooms and bathroom, and placed some toys for our kids in the leaving room. She even had a baby futon for our 2 years old. I cannot recommend enough this place if you want to experience a traditional Japanese house with maximum comfort, this is the place!

This guesthouse is simply unforgettable! It's a two-story Japanese-style cottage, where the owner's meticulous design and arrangement make guests feel truly at home. First of all, fluent English communication is a rare find during a trip in Japan. Additionally, the amenities provided in the room are extremely detailed, including various breads, drinks, tea, bath salts, relaxing foot patches, face masks, mouth wash and even a curling iron! The owner also placed steam eye masks and mineral water by the bedside, making it feel just like home. I have to say, this is the most memorable guesthouse of my trip to Japan, and I look forward to our next visit!

Beautiful quiet neighborhood. Our host, Rachel, ensured we had a really comfortable stay. While we really enjoyed Kyoto, staying at Imakumano Terrace made it the best part of our Japan holiday. The house is beautiful and we felt right at home. It's located in a quiet neighborhood but there's lots to explore around which is not part of the regular touristy stuff. And that just added to the charm of the place. Highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Kyoto (especially with kids!)

This was the nicest accommodation of our trip. A perfect blend of modern and traditional. Very comfortable beds, well appointed kitchen- complete with snacks and drinks, awesome bathroom with soaking tub and luxury products & a supremely friendly and accommodating host. Rachel helped us navigate Kyoto, extended some grace with checkout time and called us a cab to the train station. We’re planning our return trip!

Rachel was a wonderful host, and the property itself exceeded our expectations. Would stay again if visiting Kyoto!

It took us a while to figure out way around for visiting things.

Our stay in Kyoto was everything we hoped and more. It was removed from the city centre however still accessible to the touristy attractions via a 5 min walk to the closet bus stop. Rachel our host was absolutely amazing. So accommodating and with a wealth of information. The stay itself was very comfortable, spacious, ideal for a family stay in an authentic Japanese environment. The personal touches were a bonus from all the toiletries provided to a well stocked fridge and essential pantry goodies. Very Highly recommended. A must stay when you travel to Kyoto. Thank you so much Rachel for your generous and amazing hospitality. Will definitely return when we next come back to Japan 😁

Everything about my stay was wonderful and exceeded my expectations. The attention to detail and the care put into every aspect of the hotel were truly impressive.

The property’s interior is beautifully crafted and very comfortable. The homes are away from the busy crowds but not far from the main tourist attractions that Kyoto has to offer. It’s the best place that I’ve stayed at in Kyoto.

We loved this place. The traditional-style accommodations are charming and have a ton of sophisticated amenities (like a soaking tub, automatic washer and dryer, etc). The location is a bit off the beaten path, but that’s part of the charm. It makes the experience more authentic and you really get to know Kyoto outside of the tourist areas. Plus, there are some great tiny restaurants nearby. Most importantly, Rachel and her staff went absolutely above and beyond to give us a memorable stay. We had a baby in tow and they provided baby food, changing accessories, toys, a baby bed, a high chair and more. This made our lives soooo much easier! She was always available to help with local tips, a taxi order, etc. We cannot recommend this spot more highly, especially for families visiting Kyoto!

We adored this place, but if you don’t like walking / want to be in the tourist hub, it may not be for you.
