Gion Shirakawa no Yado

Un emplacement idéal dans un quartier très agréable, avec plein de commerces, pas loin de certains magnifiques temples, la douceur de la rivière shiragawa. Après une journée à Kyoto, on est content de revenir ici au calme. Matins reposants avec vue sur l’extérieur. Maison propre et bien équipée. Capsules de café nespresso. Lits confortables et salle de bain pratique.

C’est au final assez cher. La maison est bien rénovée mais elle manque un peu de chaleur et de décoration surtout dans le salon du haut. Un Check in tard à 16h00 et un Check out beaucoup trop tôt à 10h00 ! Pour partir à 11h00 il faudra payer 5500 yens de plus ! Pas de contact, on ne communique que via la messagerie de booking….

Very close to public transport and food. Updated modern amenities in a traditional home.

A con was that the bathroom and bedroom were on different floors and to go down to the bathroom there were windows that you can’t close that see right into the house. Also because it is more traditional, they are more careful about damage which means we had to leave our luggage in that mud room area as soon as you enter. So it could be a hassle to go up and down for the bathroom/laundry.

La atencion del personal (a traves de booking, ya que en persona es inexistente) deja mucho que desear. Un check in a las 16:00 de la tarde no puede exigir que salgamos a las 10:00 de la mañana. Por una urgencia, avisamos de que nos ibamos a retrasar 15 minutos y pretendieron cobrarnos mas de 5 mil yenes. Solo van a estafar y a por dinero.

Location, house condition, staff friendly

Location was amazing. You are right on the canal so nice to see some water and the beautiful Blue heron that would show up every morning. So close to everything. Trains, subways, uber always quick to pick up. Restaurants within walking, convenient stores etc. Several temples and shrines nearby. The home is very well cared for. Beds super comfy. Although one was on the floor - traditional style, but my son said it was great. The home is small but well appointed. bathroom/shower/tub was lovely. Style is very Japanese and the craftmanship of the place is beautiful.

There is no dining table, so be prepared to stand and in the petite kitchen. We did not eat much in the home, just coffee and some yogurt to get us going, but it was a little inconvenient - and not many places to put items down like your purse, camera, any purchased items. The home is small, so I would recommend a max of 3 people. We traveled with our 20 year old son, we made it work, but I think any more human bodies and we would have been all over each other. You have to leave your luggage downstairs. We used the packing cubes which worked great but if you don't have them, you will be running up and downstairs quite a bit. All of these things are minor compared to all the positives of the place. If you like nice things, you will like your stay at Gion Shirakawa no Yado.

Gion Shirakawa is on a lovely canal. In the hot Kyoto summer, many people sit on a deck across the canal and dangle their feet in to cool off. We did too, it was delightful. The location was delightful. Easy walks to markets, the subway, and the happening parts of Gion.

We stayed as two couples. The second bedroom was rather cramped. If you stay as one couple, then probably that room is configured differently. It was a real hassle to not have our suitcases in our rooms. There wasn't really room for them. And the instructions were to leave them in the entryway. I don't know if there is a better solution here, but it was quite a hassle.
