Aldeia da Encosta

Really nice place and very friendly people. Immediate help whenever needed. Well equipped kitchen. Beautiful views. Direct heating if it was cold. We got a lot of tips from the owner what to see. We felt good. Parking at the house. Good location for trips.

It was necessary to ventilate often because of the humidity and mold (nothing was moldy at all, but you can smell it a little in the air), but that's probably common in the Azores. The sliding doors were harder to open, which might be a bit of a problem for older people.

The view was stupendous, the location is very quiet. Our hostess was very warm and helpful. The kitchen was well-equipped, and we were easily able to cook all of our meals. The living room in the loft is comfortable.

If you are accustomed to central heating, you might find the accommodation a little chilly when the weather is colder than usual. A portable space heater is provided, which helps warm up the kitchen/dining room area, and there are lots of extra blankets provided to keep warm in bed. Access to the property is by a very steep road which can be a little daunting if you are not used to driving on roads with steep grades. When driving to the property we found it easier to approach it from above and drive down the hill, rather than trying to drive up the hill from the centre of Velas.

We had a wonderful stay. A wonderful accommodation, and Gisela was a warm host. Thank you very much.

We visited several islands in the Azores and Sao Jorge was our favorite. Aldeia da Encosta is a lovely property and Gisela and her husband were kind and generous hosts. As others have said, the location is on a steep hill; everything on Sao Jorge is on a steep hill; that's what makes it beautiful. The view high above the town is breathtaking. The kitchen had all we needed to prepare simple meals. Everything was clean and tidy.

The sitting area is upstairs without a view. The weather was stormy for a while, and I wish we could have watched the sttorm while sitting on the sofa inside. There are several apartments, and I don't know about the layout for those.

The house is spacious and perched on top of the town. Gisela is such a great host, kind, and accommodating. Highly recommended!

The bed is squeaky and we could feel the springs. Some basics, e.g. salt, sugar and oil, would have been highly appreciated. But overall....we enjoyed our stay immensely!!!🙂🙂

Fantastic location and views . Host Gisela is wonderful and guided us throughout the trip and helped us when we needed. The vila is well equipped and a special garden table enabled us to have breakfast in the garden with unique views of Pico mountain

During 8 night stay, we prepared 3/4 of our meals in well equipped kitchen. Comfortable beds/pillows. Quiet.

Nothing that could have bothered us.
