Great location, nice cottage, had everything we needed. Nice for a short break, dog friendly

The cottage is cozy and clean, in a prime location for restaurants, bars and attractions. We used the cottage as a home base and went out on day trips.

One major thing (more of a structural issue so can’t really be helped); the doorway from the dining space to the kitchen is quite low and has a step. In the photos it doesn’t look so bad but it is.

Pickering itself was an excellent location for touring to the more picturesque areas such as Helmsley and coastal places like Whitby and Robin Hood's Bay. The cottage was more than adequate and facilities excellent.

The cottage was situated on Eastgate which is one of the four major roads leading into and out of Pickering and which converge at a roundabout less than 400 yards from the cottage whilst the distance from the exterior of the cottage to the road is less than 4 yards. The traffic flow in front of the cottage (which has no off road parking) is steady during the day - with cars, HGVs, livestock carriers and buses (public transport and tour coaches). Not once were we able to cross the road from where we needed to park without waiting some time for traffic to allow. Whilst this was a nuisance the noise of overnight HGV traffic passing so close to the cottage was intolerable and disrupted sleep. In particular, in the early hours of Sunday morning a convoy of HGVs drove past constantly from just after midnight to around 6a.m. Whilst this may have been associated with the Royal visit on Monday, it could well just have been traffic from the industrial estate further up Eastgate. We kept hoping it would get better - but it didn't. Being sleep deprived every night completely marred the holiday and with great reluctance we cut short our stay and left on the Thursday. There was some secondary double gazing on the upstairs bedroom window which looked dated and which was completely inadequate to soften/eradicte the heavy traffic noise which persisted through the night.

Location was spot on. Cottage was well equipped and very comfortable.

The property was in a good location of walking distance to amenities .

The property had not been cleaned to a standard that would be expected as a rented accommodation, Our stay was not pleasant . Spoken to the owner and was told it was being looked into and put right . Did not stay the full amount of time we had booked returned home early. Owner did refund a small amount of money back as good will gesture .
