Thingvellir Lake Cottage

Location to explore Golden Circle and hot tub.

Most accommodation has cleaning fee included at reasonable price in booking.com price.This hadn’t and quoted 100 euro which was excessive. Place was easy to clean but hassle having to strip beds and hoover. We always leave kitchen n bathroom clean irrespective.

Nice cottage, isolated and perfect to relax. The owner answered quickly to open the gate and we had no trouble getting there. A lot of space for only two people (up to six people can stay, but it's probably best for 4) and a very homey feeling. The kitchen was fully equipped and in general we had everything we needed for our stay.

The cottage is a bit old and one can see that in the creaking of the floor and the small bathroom. Contrary to what one might expect the cottage is not directly at the lake and one has to walk 5-10 minutes to reach the lake shore.

Location it is great. Close to the lake beautifull landscape

Hot tub dirty without the possibility to clean.. So we didn't want to use.. and the bed sheets dirty..

The location was excellent for exploring the Golden Circle. It allowed us to have a really full day of activities while being near a comfy home base with a kitchen. We had beautiful aurora views on one of our two nights there which was amazing.

Lock was difficult and door only closed fully if locked. Hot tub was luke warm with no way to adjust. We opted not to use it at all given the chilly weather in late September.

Good location close to the golden circle and quiet. Good to see the northern lights.

Incredibly overpriced, small and old. Photos and description could be deceiving as we believe small details were omitted until the booking became not refundable. We booked the hut for 4 adults but paying the listed price for 5 people so two could sleep in the separate beds but they only made two double beds. Small double bedroom was drafty. The shower leaks onto the floor. Only ONE person managed to shower before the hot water ran out. Good electric showers have existed for years... For the price per night, it really isn't acceptable. The price doesn't include the cleaning of the property which falls onto the guests, unless incurring into a £100 cleaning fee at the end. That I understand is to encourage guests to clean and not trash the place but the house should also be professionally cleaned as it was really dusty and in need of so much better cleaning, attention to detail and care (some towels were dirty) otherwise it's just a cheap cashcow. To get to the property you have to call the owner to open the gate manually (again details omitted until the booking wasn't refundable anymore). This was particularly frustrating as on both occasions we needed the gate to be opened, calls weren't picked up. In fact, on the day of the checkout we needed to leave on time and at 9 am we were stuck in front of a gate; the owner and property managers were not picking up their phones (the property manager has listed a shop phone number as her number to call for emergencies). Also you can't see the lake from the property.
