Machiya Kyoto Shogoin

This place was awesome for us (2A, 2 teens). Spacious and clean with super helpful and friendly hosts (they live on site). The neighborhood is quiet and residential, which is just what we wanted. It is close enough to transportation. One of the highlights was having the bikes to use. It is a great way to get around Kyoto and we used them every day to some extent. It was nice to have the extra space after some small hotel rooms on our trip. Other amenities were helpful too - laundry machines especially. We would definitely stay here again.

For us there was nothing negative. The futons were a little thin compared to others we slept on elsewhere, but that is being nitpick and they weren't really an issue. If you need to be super close to the center of town and want a busy area, then you might want to choose a different place.

Property is spacious, clean and beautiful. The proprietor provided us with every amenity we could need for a medium-ling stay. Everything from cases of water to detergent for the washing machine. It's a 143yo house but it's so well maintained it's age doesn't show. We will absolutely be staying here next time we are in Kyoto. 10/10

Absolutely nothing.

Staying in a traditional Japanese Machiya was an amazing experience. Also, the host was amazing even offering us a free ride back to the train station in Kyoto.

Very clean and comfortable. Had everthing we needed and more. Owner was amazing and went out of his way to help us. Bicycles were available to use. Close to shops, buses and trains. My son I loved staying here and will definitely book here again the next time we are in Kyoto.

Everything! This standalone guest house is amazing. Honestly we wanted for nothing. Bonus points for the massive washing / dryer in one machine, that allowed us to fully clean all of growing pile of clothes. The hosts were fantastic, definitely the best communicatin of our 15 day trip.

The property is a little way out of Kyoto Central BUT this was not a detraction for us. It could be for other guests. Check the distance from downtown Kyoto if this is important to you

Such a great location that is centrally based but still in a quieter residential area. The bikes were an amazing feature for our whole family. The host was so kind and lives on the same general property. Great space for our family with teens!

This is a comfortable two-floor building with two bedrooms on the second floor. It is perfectly equiped and everything is so well maintained. It was rainy during our séjour and we can use the umbrellas offered by the owners of the house. They live just in the building next to this building and they are always ready to answer our questions and help us.

Very kind host who met us and gave us a tour of the property. Was also easy to get hold of during the stay, and kindly gave us a lift to the station when we left. Property was wonderful, very clean and well stocked. In a great location near some supermarkets, shrines, and temples. Had some bus stops nearby as well.
