Birdsong Cottage

The hosts are wonderful and thoughtful and there is incredible attention to detail throughout the home. Amazing value for what is presented, probably my best stay on booking.com to date. Location is amazing with the most beautiful bush view. Tūi birds literally right on your doorstep as you make a coffee. Nice little treats waiting for you as you come in and a lovely comfortable room with great movie selection on the TV. Nice dining space for a glass of wine and a gorgeous shower and bathroom.

Great location, very clean, friendly hosts plus warm hospitality. Free eggs, chocolates are really nice touches

First of all, Susan picked me up at the bus station as I was planning to walk to Birdsong Cottage and the weather was drizzly and windy the day I arrived. In addition, not a very walkable route as I misjudged this with my plans to walk from the bus station. Best to have a car here. Susan and Gavin graciously assisted me with getting around since I didn't have a car...THANKS! Cottage is in a strikingly beautiful setting, lush with lovely gardens. Quiet. Very clean. Bedding is high quality and cotton sheets. I am perplexed with why another guest recently commented on nylon/synthetic fiber sheets. In the bathroom, heated towel rack was a great touch. Above average sized shower with very good pressure/hot water. In the kitchen, nicely stocked with utensils, cooking/food prep equipment, gas burners, microwave, gourmet coffee machine, a local cheese and gourmet crackers, complimentary. During my 3 night stay, Gavin came by with fresh fish and Susan came by with 4 fresh eggs from their chickens. Good wifi and TV. Lastly, I booked/stayed 3 nights as I went on an overnight Kapiti Island outing (it was fabulous, highly recommend) and since this involves a 20 minute boat ride, it's a risk for being cancelled if it's windy. So, if my Kapitia Island outing was cancelled I had a great place to continue to stay. In addition, it was extra nice to come back from Kapiti Island and have all of my things safe and readily available in the cottage.

I can't think of a way to improve this delightful cottage!

Everything.

There was no cafetière. There was an excellent coffee machine but too complex to lean on a one night booking. The sheets were nylon, did not live up to the excellent standard of everything else.

Everything was perfect. Not just a lovely place, but wonderful hosts Susan and Gavin. They have so much passion for their place. Spotless clean and very detail oriented. They go above and beyond in order to make their guests stay as pleasant as possible.

That we didn’t stay longer. We only stayed 1 night but should have stayed at least 2 nights to fully enjoy the place

The cottage itself was stunning - beautifully decorated and nestled into the bush, surrounded by native birds. The hosts were very friendly and there were thoughtful touches right throughout the property. We would absolutely stay again.
