Kyo no oozora FUKA

The house was lovely! We really enjoyed our stay, it was comfortable and very clean and new facilities. We really loved coming home and enjoying the living room after a long day exploring Kyoto. The location was very convenient, also a 7 eleven in walking distance. We also had several bus stops near the house. The house was cleaned every two days and they also stocked up on shampoo etc. Very great staff!

Beautiful machiya. Old charm with modern facilities. Loved the location. Quiet neighbourhood. Five minute walk to a supermarket. Not too far to get the markets or other things we wanted to see. Highly recommend, especially if you have kids and need a rest day as it's spacious, cool in the heat and it's nice to have facilities to prepare your own food using local produce. Staff are just a click away if you need any assistance with anything at the house or otherwise, such as organising luggage to be forwarded to our next location so we could travel light on the shinkansen.

Plenty of room for families. The rooms are clean and very comfortable. They have thought about your stay and have coffee, tea, sweets, skin products, and Haircare. A very beautiful stay.

The beds are very firm. Oh and they need butter knifes in the kitchen.

Nothing everything was perfect

The house was wonderful, designed in a traditional Japanese style with a lovely Japanese garden, which really enhanced the Kyoto experience. The area was very quiet and peaceful. The entry code needs to be picked up at an office located about a 7-minute walk from the house. Everything we needed during our stay was provided, including toiletries, a hairdryer, towels, and even pajamas. The kitchen was equipped with a refrigerator and other essential appliances, plus there was a washing machine and an adapter for Japanese electrical outlets. Communication with the host was through an app, available in every language, with interesting tourist tips. Cleaning was done every other day, which was more than sufficient. Although we didn’t have meals included, there were grocery stores and bakeries nearby, so it wasn’t an issue at all.

The only downside was the lack of a designated smoking area nearby

The house is really very beautiful, in true Japanese style and this allowed us to immerse ourselves even better in Japanese culture. The bathtub was really beautiful and the unconventional shape made the experience even more unique.

Even though the villa was really beautiful, I don't recommend taking the villa for just one day. Check-in is only permitted in the afternoon and you must leave the house at exactly 10am the following day and we didn't know that we had to check-in for the stay in a cafe quite far from the villa. We tried to ask for a late check-in but it wasn't possible even paying for the extra time. We found the whole process very stressful: you have to collect the keys from a café which is not really close to the villa and if you are traveling with very heavy luggage it is not possible to do this process without taking a taxi or leaving a person to wait at the villa while the other checks in. Furthermore, I couldn't find the check-in specifications anywhere on their booking page, in fact we didn't know about this process before we had already booked. Maybe we didn't find the information ourselves, but if we had seen it before perhaps we wouldn't have booked this specific villa. The garden, although very beautiful, is only a showcase, in fact we were asked not to touch the plants or move near the plants so as not to risk breaking them. Furthermore, you cannot smoke even on the small outdoor patio in front of the garden or in front of the house, obviously not being careful not to leave cigarette there and leaving the space very clean. As there are no smoking areas nearby it was really inconvenient to have an almost unusable outdoor space. Another small note which is more of a personal opinion is regarding the rice paper doors. The villa as already mentioned is really beautiful, we had seen the photos and knew about the doors. I perhaps advise against taking this villa for more than two if you don't really have a close connection: the paper doors, even in the bathrooms, leave no privacy for the guests.
