Swales cottage

Birthday trip away for my partner , meeting up with my son and daughter in law from different ends of the country. Was an ideal place to stay , peaceful and not far away from the centre. Cosy and comfortable with everything we needed .

I usually only read the most recent reviews but from now on I will be starting with the bad ones. The issues we had were the same as people from 3/4 years ago and nothing has been done about any of them! This is just a cash cow for the greedy owners who won't even spend £1 on a plug for the sink! There were no towels (this got blamed on the owners wife by the owner), there is no plug for the sink in the very dated bathroom which also has no toilet lid which is a hygiene issue. What is left of the seat moves and is not fitted properly. The shower seal is broken as mentioned 3 years ago as is the case of the bathroom door frame. The front door is disgusting and has also been mentioned in reviews from years ago and still nothing has been done about it. Ancient boiler with no instructions so the heat was unbearable. We had a leak from a radiator which I mentioned to the owner who didn't even ask which one so he probably knows about this as well but is not prepared to fix this either. We were asked to strip the beds and put them in the nets provided. There were no nets so we left them on which I am glad not to have seen the state of the duvet or the unprotected sweat stained pillows. This place is not fit to be rented out. PLEASE look elsewhere for somewhere to stay in Whitby. Not clean, cobwebs and dirty carpets. In previous reviews this has been blamed on the cleaners. The owners ARE the cleaners. I called to check in early and the owner said that himself and his wife were in there cleaning so could we wait 15 minutes. Clearly just greedy owners who are happy to take people's money to find their own life. Will definitely not be back again. Yes there is parking but you have to cope with the selfish bad parking from another cottage owner. We deserve a full refund for this it is simply not on. Not fit for purpose!

The cottage was like home from home, it was lovely and warm on arrival. It was well equipped with all that you need. We had a dedicated parking spot just outside. The location was perfect and close to shops, restaurants and the harbour. Communication was also really good.

Poo stain on dvet blood on pillow filthy shower screen no seal,dirty cracked tiles broken toilet seat.loose bannister filthy carpets. Tiny tv broken gas fire sofas rock hard arms no padding left holes in sides we have photos to prove. The host was good on directions and a early check-in, but the whole place needs a refit and a deep clean.ive worked in the leisure industry and would be ashamed if it was mine.my partner gets anxious so was no point speaking to host as nothing could be done in the short term. Finally I request a refund as this place is totally unfit for rental in it's present state.

It was a lovely cottage in a great location, owner was very welcoming. My only gripe was the bedding needed renewing (I am very particular when it comes to cleanliness).
