Shortlake Cottage

the location was great and it was a quiet peaceful area with great views of the sea upstairs. the sofas were really comfortable and the kitchen had great appliances and cooking utensils. Host provided good directions to get to the property and parking was nice.

choice this place mostly to have a washer after the midpoint of our trip, but there was no laundry detergent so we had to go by some. then the washer/dryer was really loud and didn’t work well. clothes were not dry after hour and we had to hang them to dry but they had a moldy smell. As many of the other reviews state, the shower gets everything in the bathroom wet and the floor is not the right level for it to go into the drain so it goes all the way to the bedroom door. the stairs and floor upstairs are very rough and creaky. had to wear shoes upstairs to avoid splinters. it was hard to go down the stairs at night to go to the bathroom because the didn’t seem to be a way to turn lights out to light the stairs when coming down. upstairs was also hot and only 2 of the small windows opened and none of them have blinds so the bright light woke us at 5 am. the curtains downstairs are very shear so the light also woke up the downstairs sleeper. blackout curtains would be better. finally, I personally could use more pillows. there was only one very flat pillow for each person (assuming max of 5 people).

Despite being recently built, the style of the building with wooden beams, character furniture, and also great views of Weymouth Bay and Portland Bill from the Upper floor were all fantastic. Comfy sofas and cosy lounge area, well equipped kitchen and large beds were very good. Property was cleaned to a good standard. Location was perfect for exploring coastal Dorset, with village of Preston nearby perfect for Fish N Chips and groceries. Gardens were nice around the house. Short walk down to SW coastal path. Host, Peter, kept us well informed and directions to the property were spot on.

Bathroom / wet room, despite being large with a decent bath and powerful warm shower, could have been better designed, as floor drainage was poor, allowing water to pool around sink and other areas. A closed in shower cubicle might work better. No dishwasher, so if you are used to having one and have a family too, dust off the marigolds and get the Fairy liquid out :-)

Characterful and spacious interior, perfectly located for walks on the coast path. Well equipped for self catering. Good parking. Lovely sea views from mezzanine floor. Special requests made were accommodated, which we are grateful for.

It was very cold- the heating wasn’t working and there was no response when I messaged the owner about it. The bathroom has an open ‘wet room’ shower, but the floor is uneven so doesn’t drain away, leaving puddles that need to be squeegeed away and mopped up. There were no window coverings upstairs, and downstairs curtains were very thin, therefore letting the early morning light in.

TV not working fully - asked for it to be checked which it was but still no main channels working.. clearly some sort of reception issue, so if it cannot be sorted should be highlighted on website description. Overall property felt quite shabby with stains on floor, walls, lots of cracks in ceiling, walls etc,, Have to agree with other reviews that the wet room / shower is not great. Water gets everywhere and takes ages to dry, so later when you need the toilet you end up with wet feet. The toilet does not flush properly and needs several flush's to clear the bowl.

Peaceful location, with sea view from upstairs, convenient for exploring the Jurassic coast. Excellent value for money.

The wet room arrangement is not ideal for mixed parties with two doors and no locks. Some way to dry the floor afer a shower (scraper) would be useful. Also lack of places to hang coats and no mirror in main building.

We loved it! it was warm, welcoming, done to a lovely standard, in a beautiful location, relaxing and different.

The tv was abit temperamental but that was really it and that’s just nitpicking

Absolutely stunning Cottage in a great location! the pictures don’t do this place justice… it is beautiful inside and out with great attention to detail! Warm and comfortable with everything you need for a perfect stay! There was even a dog bed for our pooch! Thank you so much for letting us stay at such last minute!

What a beautiful little cottage! We loved it! With amazing views and also Osmington Bay is just a couple minutes walk away. Definitely would recommend.
