River Cottage at Old Post Office

The River Cottage at the Old Post Office was an amazing space where no detail was left undone. Mychael and Lisa filled the space with beauty, whimsy and thoughful touches hiding in every available space. The setting on the little river was peaceful and gorgeous. The provided breakfast of local butcher meats, fresh eggs and artisan roasted coffee was more than we expected and was, in a word, delightful!

The only thing we didn't like was the fact that our 3 night stay was cut short by our youngest son's illness that forced us to pack up and leave two days early! It was deeply disappointing for us, but Mychael was so gracious and understanding. He even offered us a free "repeat stay" at some point in the future. This is the kind of host that deserves to be recognised for graciousness and going "above and beyond" for his guests.

River cottage was a unique place to stay with everything you could possibly want or need. The hosts were very attentive to all your needs. The breakfast pack with personalised names and bottle of wine was so lovely. There is a lovely outdoor area to use but also has a pub nearby for food if you don't fancy cooking. Bertie the dog was so spoiled too with bowls and treats and somewhere to sleep. Overall a very special place to visit and in a great location too.

From start to finish we had a really enjoyable stay. Brilliant welcome from the owners & a very much appreciated welcome pack with wine, breakfast stuff, fruit, eggs etc. The place is fantastic. Ideal quiet location but walking distance to the local pub. Bed is comfy & the bathroom is plenty big enough with a great shower. The decking is brilliant & great for relaxing on after a days exploring Hadrian’s wall. Places like Sycamore gap, Vindolanda & Housesteads are all nearby. We have absolutely nothing to moan about and would not hesitate to recommend that you book a stay here. Lastly, we were packed off with some snacks & drinks for the journey home. Nothing

We had a fantastic weekend at the River Cottage. The cottage is perfect; well equipped with amazing quirky taste, set on the bank of a quiet river which was so peaceful and relaxing. Great location, close to Hadrian's Wall and other great Northumberland walks. The hosts, Mychael Lisa and Izobel were absolutely amazing, and went above and beyond to make our special weekend so perfect. Hands down the best hospitality we've experienced from any host - so kind and thoughtful. We will definitely be back. Thank you again!

Nothing - it was perfect.

The hosts could not have been more accommodating. We were travelling down from the Scottish isles and our ferry was delayed causing our arrive time to be unsociably late but the hosts were incredibly understanding and accommodating, setting up the bed for our little ones in advance of us getting there. The property itself was beautifully designed and decorated and gave us everything we needed for a luxurious two night stop. Easily could have done more.

Good location

A bit cluttered, too many gadgets.

Quaint. Riverside decked outside area with bar and lower fire pit area. Well equipped Close to a pub. Roman history sites very near.

Gorgeous setting. Really relaxing, set next to stream, owners were lovely. Pretty little village, locals all very friendly and welcoming. Our pug loved it too.
