Host & Stay - Folkton Cottages

The location and lovely and quiet.

No hot water and place not cleaned. Poor state of repair lots of lights not working.

The double oven and the fridge freezer.

The cottage had not been cleaned at all when we arrived also with dead fruit flies on all the window ledges (clean sheets on bed only). It was too late to phone and complain, however I did the next morning. The person on the phone was helpful and asked for a full list of things that we dirty, which was the whole cottage and arranged for someone to come out that day... even then it was not a fresh smell when we returned.. and i had to clean the kettle properly. No proper cleaning products in the cottage as stated in booking.com, they did bring us a bottle of washing up liquid... The back bedroom was two very old beds pushed together and the sheet did not fit properly so did not tuck in sufficiently to keep tidy. No side lights for reading on either side of bed. Clock on wall had no battery. The cooker hood was broken upon arrival (I did see that on a previous review and still not fixed). At the end of our stay they sent a FEW emails to make sure we were out by 10am and also stated - To ensure the property is ready for the next guests, please vacate the cottage on your day of departure no later than 10am. We also request that you leave the property and its contents in a clean and tidy condition. That's a joke, standard emails should not be sent out without looking at history!!! Needless to say we left the cottage cleaner than it was when we arrived!!

Talking to host and stay was good they sounded professional and helped me sort out a few issues during our stay The location 20 nin with traffic to the beach big fridge freezer mikerowave hob oven dishwasher washing machine and plenty of storage for groceries beds are nice 2 soft single beds pushed together and 1 firm king-size I think in room 2 gardens are lovely looking at animals and a lovely view at the back next to the pond private driveway was I nice touch

The listing shows pictures that are not this property but the large Lodge non of them I believe are of this property it says WiFi even had the login details on the fire but no signal for us they told us later there is no WiFi but listing says there is table outside needs jet wash it's covered in moss and god knows what property had versus damaged items you can't get up and walk around at night the floor makes so much noise especially going to the on sweet if you dim the lights in the sitting room they start flickering like a slow strobe lite it needs it's own listing but almost all of what iv put it just needs someone to look and give som tlc especially plz sort out the mastic on the bathroom it makes a chanel for water to run along the bath and go on the floor it's annoying yest I have mild ocd so I'll stop here

The property is secluded and the bedrooms lovely, both with en suite too!

The property looked a little shabby in parts and there was a large damp patch in the living room. The property could do with a deep clean, carpets included

The interior was clean

When we 1st arrived we couldn’t get access to the key box so I phoned & spoke to Emma who informed me that our booking hadn’t been verified, so I had to wait for a call back to give me the code for the key box. The vacuum cleaner had been left un emptied, the outside bin was overflowing with bags on the ground that had been opened by foxes & was surrounded by wasps. It took us an hour to find how to switch the oven on because there was no manual for it, we could’ve looked it up on Google but with there being no wifi, I wasn’t prepared to use my own data for something that wasn’t my fault. The door to the boiler was hanging off & I had to put it back as best I could because it was off it’s hinges.

Good location

We arrived to an over flowing bin and an outdoor table which needs a scrub. The decking area to the side also needs a sort. When we got in, a musty/dirty smell hit us, not a clean smell which most people would expect. There was dirt/cob webs on the ceiling, up the walls, grime over the taps. There was a section on the wall which has dead flys stuck to whatever was on the wall. The mirrors need replacing, as do the mattresses. One mattresses is that old it has bobbles all over it, which you could feel through the sheet. The cupboards and draws need cleaning. The stains on the carpets need cleaning. The kettle has a brown ring around it. I went to hoover and even that was filthy and needs taking apart and cleaning. I could really go on. The whole place needs a VERY deep clean and some TLC. We were booked for 3 nights, We left after the first. The company who rent this out contacted me and said they would of re cleaned. We arrived at 4pm, my kids go to bed at 7pm and we needed tea. There was no way that place would be able to be cleaned in that space of time. Also the mattresses wouldn’t be able to be replaced. So, my advice. Avoid this place until it’s had a revamp.

Really liked the location a few miles away from Scarborough, so enjoyed the short drive and view to town or the seaside in the morning drive. The location was just right for either Scarborough or Bridlington, but we had the peace of staying out in the coutryside

The 2 single beds that were pushed together that my wife and I slept in were just so very very soft and we bearly got any sleep while we were there because of them, the other bedroom that our son slept in the bed was very creeky when ever my son moved about in it, he told us that it kept him from sleeping as well. The kitchen hob didn't appear to work there was a light that came on when you turned on the hob, but that was all we just couldn't find anyway of making the rings of the hob function.
