Peaceful experience, friendly, caring, and welcoming staff. We were truly spoilt. Great views. Variety of hikes. Beautiful horses. Delicious and hearty meals. Treated like family.

The hosts insist on knowing about your comings and goings during your stay. We experienced some rude and snide remarks from them as a family during our stay. We were also asked “how did we get in” on the 2nd day of our stay as the hosts insist on you calling them EVERY time you are at the gate IN A PLACE OF MINIMAL CELLPHONE RECEPTION/COVERAGE. This in contrast to our other stay close by in the same vicinity where we were given a remote and a code to the gate for our personal mobility. Our family also complained about the WiFi that doesn’t work, brown muddy water from the taps in the rooms, as well as some remarks made by the hosts to them during their stay. The price also doesn’t match up to the archaic facilities, overpriced standard rooms, and a very dirty pool undesirable to swim in.

We recently stayed at Drakensberg Mountain Retreat and had a very pleasant experience. The location offers excellent views of the mountains, and the property strikes a good balance between rustic charm and comfort. Hosts Paul and Patricia are knowledgeable about the area and helpful with suggestions for activities and hiking trails. They maintain the property well and ensure guests have what they need for a comfortable stay. The room was clean and well-maintained. The communal areas are comfortable, and the dining room serves good home-style meals. We particularly appreciated the spacious veranda, which provided a good spot for relaxation and taking in the mountain views. The gardens are well-kept and offer nice spaces for walking or sitting outdoors. This retreat works well both as a quiet getaway and as a base for exploring the Drakensberg region. Paul and Patricia run a professional establishment, and we would consider staying here again when visiting the area.
