Crookedstone House

Very disgusting place. It is not worth to stay there even for free. Mould is everywhere. A lot of dirt and funghus.

The owner was very very friendly and helpful.

The property itself had a musky smell about it. The bedroom did not have this smell. However, the bed was covered hairs (both human and dogs). The pillows had stains on them. With this being said, we weren’t due to check in until 2pm and we arrived at 7am and the owner let us take the room over, so I can understand it being unclean (to a certain extent). We booked this property a week in advance so there was enough time to clean the room.

The friendly welcome, comfortable bed and great location.

we didn't stay at crookedstone house as when we arrived we went to the door in which the doorbell wasn't there, we stepped in the porch entrance where there was a bell which i rang waited no answer, knocked on the door still no answer in which after 10 minutes still no answer there were no lights on in the downstairs sitting rooms just the hall stairs landing. the place its self looked dirty with flies and cobwebs at the window and dirty nets. not at all what we expected. with no answer we came away as it was cold and found other accommodation.

Character of the property and personality of host.

Everything was lovely.

Absolute shocking host. No sign to the house. Didn't open door but looked out the window. House extremely dirty and smelt very bad. Host, Primrose was odd to the point of worryingly odd. Closed the front door, ignored us but peeped out the window. When she did finally decided to let us in, with not a welcome, or how are you or Happy Christmas, we were hit with the putrid smells of urine and cigarettes. Absolutely filthy staircase. Primrose took her shoes off to show up the stairs (I would have left mine on) only for us both to notice her feet were black with mud and dirt. We also noticed a huge pile of laundry lying on the floor at the bottom of the stairs. Disgusting. Should not be running a guesthouse. Perhaps invest in a cleaner and brush, quite literally, up on your customer services and communication etiquette.

We liked the (falsely advertised) pictures of a clean and tidy, pretty looking country house.

The place was a dirty, run down looking dump. It was unkempt, and looked like a hillbillies backyard. There was a pile of rotting wet leaves against the front door which looked like it hadn’t been opened for days or weeks. Attempts to raise the owner by knocking failed on. 2 seperate occasions and even booking.com couldn’t get them by phone. This property is nothing like the external photos. Granted, we did not enter at all but I’m glad we did not as other reviews are quite telling about the dogs and smell etc.
