The Lady Maxwell Room at Buittle Castle

Exceptional, it was a pleasure to have stayed there. The room was fabulous it was peaceful and quiet and very comfortable, we were made very welcome indeed when Tobias greeted us upon arrival, showed to our room and had a little chat about the place we were invited to feel free to to roam the grounds which we were delighted to do so. We had a very comfortable and quiet nights sleep which was bliss. Breakfast next morning was a full Scottish( made to order) served in the Great Hall over the Courtyard again what a fabulous experience.

It is utterly impossible to dislike anything about this accommodation!!!

The very great love that the owners have had for their historic heritage will, I hope, be fully appreciated by all who experience this lovely place, with all its unexpected associations. But as well as that, the bed was super-comfy, the room warm and cosy, and the breakfast absolutely excellent.

The room was amazing the whole place is beautiful. The owner was brilliant. Very friendly helpful and attentive. Everything was just amazing. Full of history and such a great stay. Can't recommend enough. Will definitely be staying again. Will even look at getting married here.

Well, quite frankly, everything was just great, from the wonderful greeting, onwards. The room was fantastic, character filled, ( rare nowerdays) steeped in the history of both family and building. The castle is still very much in the family, and was great to chat with Tobias about it all, he couldn't have been more helpful and attentive. The bed and bedding the most comfortable we have ever stayed in, and the breakfast in the 'Great Hall' was both fantastic in content and location. We shall return... thank you

Could do with a couple of benches by the river,also would make the beams in the lady maxwell room darker in keeping with the decor

An absolutely charming room, fitted out with period furniture, a four poster bed, fire place, wonderful views, while all being immersed in history. The small touches that Tobias and the team provides are delightful. The usual tea and coffee making facilities in the room - but even a decanter of sherry, plus personalised toiletries in the bathroom A lovely breakfast seated in the Great Hall; Fresh fruit, cereals, a choice of hot items and tea or coffee - all served individually and personally. Beautiful surroundings, peaceful and quiet, outdoor seating, private gardens and river walks, yet fairly close to nearby towns and villages. A must stay, a most unique and individual property

Really atmospheric and historic location. Tobias couldn't have been more attentive but didn't invade our privacy. We loved being able to sit in the gardens.

Where do I start……such an amazing and stunning location. Beautiful views from every angle. So peaceful and incredible to stay somewhere with such an interesting and rich history. The room was lovely, there is a book in there that explains the decor and history of the castle which is fascinating. Even a couple of glasses of sherry were included in a decanter! Lovely area to walk and we were blessed with the weather. Angus was such a polite and courteous host. Breakfast was delicious and served in the great hall which was just incredible with so much of interest to look at. It almost felt like an experience rather than just a room for the night. If you enjoy historical sites and immersing yourself in that along with peace and beauty then this is perfect. We aim to return and see how the restoration is going on Thank you

Nothing. No tv but that didn’t bother us at all.

Everything about the place was perfect. Tobias is a gentleman, the location is perfect, as is the accommodation. They even have a peacock. What more do you need?
