The Munches Room at Buittle Castle

This is an enchanting place, authentic and unique. The castle is located in arguably the most peaceful and beautiful part of Scotland. Visit for a rare opportunity to experience a beautiful historic building restored as a labour of love.

We really enjoyed our stay at Buittle Castle the location is stunning the grounds and gardens are beautiful. The hosts are attentive and welcoming. We found the little booklet in the room telling us all about the history very interesting. The Munches Room is exquisitely decorated with lots of lovely touches including good quality tea a decanter with sherry and nice toiletries. The bed was super comfy. The breakfast which we had served in our room was excellent quality and delicious. We would highly recommend and would love to return.

The Munches Room could do with a little TLC. The shower tray is a little tired and would benefit from either replacing or a good tidy up. It wasn't draining to well. A few areas could do with touching up paint work etc. The room is so lovely and exquisitely decorated it just needs maintaining to it's high quality.

Beautiful old castle

1) the views from the garden (but not from the room) were fabulous 2) recently refurbished, attractively designed room 3) chatting with the owner about the history of the castle and his plans for the site

1) no TV 2) the room was not as spacious or as grand as the photos suggested 3) limited breakfast options - it wouldn't take much to also offer museli and orange or apple juice

Great home cooked breakfast. Comfy bed and quirky surroundings. Nice friendly host.

Please leave water in a sealed bottle. Check kettle is empty and clean.

Interesting and Unique property set in beautiful countryside. Beautifully restored room and amazing dinner set in the great hall. A wonderful experience!

It is a gorgeous place. Staff were very helpful and kind.

It could've been cleaner. There was a lot of dust around the place. The shower was almost overflowing due to a dirty drainage system.

We booked the exclusive dining experience in the old hall. Outstanding service and atmosphere. Dinner by candle light, fine bone china and silverware. We went for the soup which was delicious and no details were spared. Fresh lovage from the garden, creme fraise and an Austrian herb drizzle. Main course we opted for paneer which was beyond flavoursome! Added details such as the flaked almonds made it beyond delicious. Finally creme brulee and sticky toffee pudding. Portion sizes were generous but with high quality. The house wine was Austrian and was rich fruity and light. The room was large with views over the sunken garden. An extremely cozy bed and the heating was on all night so it was lovely and toasty. Excellent breakfast options and they catered for our dietary requirements. You could also have the option to have breakfast in the room or the old hall. Added bonuses of the peacock and ground walks down to the river. We drank champagne overlooking the castle soaking up the beautiful landscape. The main highlight was the host. Tobias is the best host we have ever had. We have stayed in 5 star hotels across the world but his hospitality is exceptional. Very attentive, polite, respectful and very inviting. We have already told friends and family that they need to stay here and we will gladly return as the nearest opportunity

A historic gem with the most congenial hosts. The room was beautifully decorated in period style overlooking the sunken garden. Dinner & breakfast in the great hall prepared and served to us by Barons Tobias & James were delicious - truly wonderful chefs!
