The Munches Room at Buittle Castle

We went for a long weekend and wanted somewhere that felt like a real step-change from everyday life - this totally delivered. The castle itself and location, the stables' accommodation, breakfast in the hall, the lovely bed and beautiful room - were quite magical. The gardens are lovely and you can walk right down to the river. It was so refreshing. We came away feeling renewed. The owner, Tobias, and the staff are so gracious and nothing is too much trouble. If you have a moment in time and want somewhere just to stop and re-energise yourself - I highly recommend Castle Buittle.

The Munches Room was beautifully decorated and full of interesting information about the castle and family history. Likewise, the Great Hall was a lovely place to have breakfast. We were thankful for the owner's patience with our late arrival and for his warm welcome. The sherry decanter in the room was a lovely touch. The peaceful, rural surroundings and beautiful sunken garden made for a relaxing stay.

The castle was very hard to find, since there was no signage either at the end of the lane or when you approached the farm in front of the castle that you were headed in the right direction. The pre-ordered breakfast was promptly served, but no additional toast or coffee was offered, although more coffee was brought at our request when someone returned to serve other guests. It wasn't clear how to communicate with the kitchen during breakfast, or order the snacks and drinks from the menu in the room.

Excellent communication including detailed directions, host was friendly and helpful. Beautifully designed room, well thought out extras like reading material and the bespoke touches that complemented the fascinating history of the property. Relaxing walks available around the property.

All the little extras ensured our stay was a truly unique experience. We were made to feel really special, and Tobias was so accommodating, answering all of our questions about the Castle from a place of knowledge and well deserved pride. Even our request for a 7am breakfast was greeted with a smile. The scenery is breathtaking, and we would highly recommend a stay at the Castle to anybody, including returning ourselves. If you are staying, do book for your evening meal, as this was a highlight for us.
