The Munches Room at Buittle Castle

Room was great very comfy bed and room very clean, Welcome glass of sherry was thoughtful. The owner was very friendly and informative about the history of the castle and very attentive, bringing fresh milk on arrival, the castle is positioned in a peaceful country setting and we had a good look around the gardens watching wildlife and not forgetting the peacock. We chose the option of breakfast in the castle which added to the experience, the Scottish cooked breakfast was great. Thank you we had a lovely stay.

Fantastic location and setting. The room was full of character and history. You can walk around the grounds from your door and get a sense of the history of the castle and setting. Great breakfast in the castle morning room with a views across the river towards Dalbeattie. Met by James and Tobias and they were very helpful.

There is nothing to say. The location and hosts were exceptional.

The Munches room is bright (we had sun!) and spacious with a comfortable double bed and table/two chairs. Plenty of room in the ensuite shower and toilet room. 'Hidden' wardrobe makes excellent use of space. With a warm welcome from Tobias - who looked after us splendidly - and the amazing breakfasts plus a wonderful candlelit evening meal, our three-night stay was truly memorable. There is the option to take meals in your room, but we chose the dining room within the castle - highly recommended. The castle is isolated from the road and nearby towns; it's a rural retreat down a farm lane with only the birdsong breaking through the quiet (and the peacock who visits the courtyard!) with views of the surrounding hills and countryside dotted with Belted Galloway cattle. The actual ruined castle nearby is too dangerous to walk around but it was lovely to stroll by and down to the river. Tobias ensured our stay was comfortable and he was just a quick call or text away if extra coffee etc needed in the room; a most gracious host who helped with useful tips and information. Utterly delightful and wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

A really special place to stay and very friendly and welcoming hosts. Super comfy bed in a room full of character. Take some time to enjoy being there, enjoy the views and walk round the grounds. Would highly recommend if you want to stay in a castle with so much history.

Amazing building, the decoration in the room was stunning and in keeping with the history of the castle. Host Tobias was exceptional, nothing was too much trouble.

Difficult to find in the dark, no signage.

Breakfast was very good. Location was good for our plans. Host was excellent.

When main property heating was off room was rather cold and draughty.

The decor, the history, the comfy bed, the breakfast delivered to the room and the lovely small touches like the sherry and toiletries

The shower didn’t drain properly and needs some attention
