Sun View Resort Kithalella

Samar was a great host and we had the best coconut sambal for breakfast. The room was large and the shower was hot! the views in the morning are unreal!

It was quite far from town up a large hill. 35 min walk or about 15 min drive.

One of the most beautiful places where we stayed in Sri Lanka, with the most amazing view on the mountains and the jungle. You can watch the sunrise from your bed and enjoy your breakfast surrounded by birdsong. Room and bathroom are spacious and clean, breakfast is abundant and with delicious food and fruit. We rented a scooter and it was great. The family is the kindest, it went the extra mile to help us with anything we needed making sure we had the best stay. Thank you!

The view from the room and balcony is amazing. The breakfast is very tasty. The couple is very nice and helpful. I regret not having booked an additional night.

The guest house is up a hill, so keep in mind if you're coming with a car or with a suitcase :)

We spent four nights at Sun View Resort. If you're looking for a place to stay where it's peaceful and quiet and where you can enjoy the sounds of the birds in the morning and beautiful sunrise from your bed, then this is the place to be!  Very spacious and clean room.  Breakfast was really good.  Family was very hospitable and making sure everything was OK. 

It’s rather far from Ella town.  For the ones WITHOUT own transportation: It's a (exhausting) 30-40 min walk UPHILL from the center of town. Be aware the tuktuk overcharge you asking 1500LKR for a one way. Ask the locals for the shortcuts (stairs) to go up and down, otherwise take a tuktuk (normally 500 LKR) or wait at the junction before entering Ella for the red bus to Kitalella which goes up from the junction (instead of entering the center of Ella), get off at New Green View Ella and walk from there a little uphill and then straight (15min walk, bus costs no more than 50LKR). The family was very hospitable but to a certain extend the friendliness of the man was making us feel uncomfortable. He for example woke us up at 6.20 am yelling "Hello... sunrise!" while we were still sleeping.  Communication at times was difficult as he didn't always seem to understand us (in English).  The Wifi modem was on, but the connection was really bad. Throughout our stay (4 nights) the Wifi didn't work.

Everything was great, we arrived late but the host was friendly and calm. He told me the easiest way to get to the hotel, he called the transport himself. A great view from the room directly to the mountains, you can hear the waterfall, which can be observed right there. The host accompanied us to the top of the mountain and back, introduced us to the plants and animals we met along the way, and showed us a beautiful view.

It's bad when the vacation ends quickly .

First of all, this very lovely family are wonderful people! They welcomed us at our arrival, and offered cup of teas as it was rainy and cool outside. They will make you feel comfortable and ensure that you will spend a good time during your stay. The rooms are clean. The view from it is breathtaking. Very good value for money. Home-cooked rice & curry dinner was, as usual, big and very tasty. Breakfast is also delicious. I do recommend staying there and will certainly be back on our next visit to Ella

Even though the homestay is pretty off the road, and you have to climb a lot of steps to get there. We felt it was totally worth the view we got. Our room was very clean and the host helped us with our bags as well. The traditional food at home stay was amazing that was cooked by the host's wife. Do try the restaurant Matey that is just in the Ella city center for very yummy and affordable Sri Lankan food.

For senior individuals or who suffer from health issues, getting to the homestay might be very difficult since taxis and tuk tuk refuse to drive up the hill.
