Haven of Trees - Hafan Y Coed

Booked this place because I needed somewhere cheap as a stop off point on a long journey& because if it’s proximity to Hendrydd Falls but didn’t read the reviews until after I’d booked & then couldn’t get a refund so had pretty low expectations & arrived with trepidation & curiosity wondering what the hell we had got ourselves into…indeed it exceeded my expectations but not in a good way. The place itself is fascinating, if you like wandering around spooky abandoned buildings & you don’t expect any staff, facilities, or have any fears for safety & security then it’s a good place just to get your head down (with or without clean bedding) if you're not easily spooked. The few residents we encountered there were friendly & helpful enough & theres plenty of firewood if you fancy a fire. This would be a great place for an illegal rave! 😁👌🏼

Um. Where do I start?

I don’t like because booked 6 rooms but I got 3 rooms and I told them I have already booked 6 rooms and they said sorry this is not booked here . You have to call booking.com and ask them but one guy they help us because have a small children’s. I told them how can I sleep here overnight with my family and children. We are 12 people but they guy help us thank for guy . I got room number 19,16,17 and all are sharing toilets and bathroom.

It not a clean. As well it can’t lock doors all are broken.

nothing the place was disgusting

no secure lock on window as it was broken, window could be opened from outside no dial on shower to adjust temperature, had to have a cold shower no towels, 1 was given by one of the workers stating it was her own towel arrived at just after 4pm to be told room needed cleaned even though book in was from 3pm. then witnessed an argument between staff regarding who's job it was. the bathroom and shower room is as soon as you walk in the rooms front door, then no door to your bedroom if ii had not broken my phone i would have sent loads of pictures

Breakfast temporarily out of order.

No mugs, glasses or cups, had to drink out of taps when me cans ran out, thankfully Welsh tap water is nice:) Some litter on property, ddim hoffi sbwriel. Grounds could use some work too, so much potential.

Nothing !! We were not able to book into the accomodation. There was not a soul about. Despite spoiling our planned New Years Eve celebrations with friends at a nearby venue, we were glad that we were unable to book in and concluded that it was for the best. We were appalled at the unkempt state of the whole place. It was very dirty.

Everything !! Nobody was there to book us in...as previously mentioned it seemed like an abandoned building. We roamed the grounds and buildings calling out, ringing the bell and phoning......the phone-line was dead. Surely this selling platform is aware that the phone number is unreachable !!! Booking.com is after all an online booking agent. Do they not keep a check on their clients, area by area? The grounds were scattered with various items including old furnishings, what looked like broken down vehicles etc. Inside there were dirty plates scattered on floors with congealed food, etc. We roamed around unchallenged, because there was not a soul there. We walked through a building into a hall, where again there were scattared plates of food.....not party food either. They had been there for days, obviously. There were beds in a room with soiled sheets. Yuk......Needless to say we left fairly quickly after that. To be honest, it was quite an eerie experience. Our evening was spoilt. After meeting our friends, we had a meal and drove back home.........Very disappointing. The whole point of us staying there, was to partake of a vino or two and not worry about driving home. My friend did not have a celebratory tipple as was planned. Perhaps the owners are going through a tough time and if so, I can empathise, it is not easy in the hospitality sector these days. However, the property should not be advertised as available and a fit place to stay. The photos on Booking.com is nothing like reality. I could go on, but no point. I have emailed customer service at Booking.com and I want a refund. I realise for the price we paid, that we were not going to receive a 5* service, but we really did not expect what we saw. Disgraceful !! I wish I had taken some photos, but to be honest, we wanted to get from there after wandering around in the cold for a while. We were already late for our meal at a nearby pub as it was. A complete refurbishment is required.

My two boys (9&10) decided to do a bit of hiking before school started again, so we chose this place because it’s close to several local hikes we had on our list. After reading some pretty awful reviews, I was feeling a bit hesitant and unsure about what to expect on arrival. As you drive in, the exterior does look a bit Wolf Creek meets Wrong Turn, with old sofas, broken cars and general clutter around the outside. However, once inside, the place has a rustic charm and feels friendly and warm. The rooms were clean, the beds were comfortable, and we all slept well. My boys, our dog and I really enjoyed our time together — we even watched a scary movie one night. The lady caretaker was absolutely lovely and made us feel very welcome. Honestly, I don’t understand what everyone was complaining about.

Our door lock was broken, so we were moved to the adjacent room, which was not a problem. However, we had specifically paid for a room with an en-suite, and unfortunately the replacement room did not have one.
