"Basic but comfortable rooms"

7.0

If you're in the area to visit Mayan sites this place is probably as good as you'll find. Basic but clean rooms and a friendly owner who'll bring you breakfast of coffee, toast and fruit. Comfortable beds and good A/C. The local ruins at Becan are great - you can climb the pyramids & we were the only people there at 9am.

The whole area is a building site of construction vehicles for the Yukatan railway. It rained while we were there and was muddy chaos! Local villages are not looking at their best. The road across the Yukatan is full of potholes. A stressful drive - take care!

"The perfect choice for a visit to Calakmul!"

10.0

Our stay at Otoch Béek was perfect! The cottage was comfortable, had AC, a hot shower, large bed with a mosquito net, and a fridge. The owner was very friendly and gave us great recommendations regarding visiting Calakmul (the starting checkpoint is a 45 minute drive away) and where to go for dinner (Xpujil is a 10 minute drive away and has many great restaurants). We were provided with some snacks for our early morning trip to Calakmul and the next day when we woke a bit later, a delicious breakfast with coffee. Fantastic!

Everything was great

The owners, Roque and Mari, are both lovely. We had several plumbing issues in our room that were quickly attended to. Coffee, fruit, and toast were a beautiful touch. The AC worked great! This place is a great value in the region.

Pretty little property. Clean rooms. Away from Xpujil. Sweet cat.

Mexican inflation is out of control. Trucks can be heard on the highway. Loud neighbors.

"Fantastic stay close to ruins sites"

7.0

Location was fantastic for our trips to the ruins. The owner kindly gave us care packages for each day. The property is pretty basic but served our needs well and the price was great. The cat was a really nice addition.

Sewer smells from the drains solved by closing the bathroom door.

"Stay away!"

1.0

The security guard was kind and helpful as much as he could. Bath towels smelled clean.

One of the worst stays I've ever had at any hotel in my life. Starting from not working AC, humid rooms filled with mold and other unpleasant smells, showers with no hot water, leaking fridge, the lack of blankets - almost everything at this place was awful. To start, the nights in Calakmul can be cold. The temperature can go down to 9-10C. The rooms had no blankets - we were supposed to cover ourselves with bedsheets, which themselves had some dark spots of something. Huge ants were running on the floor, which wasn't pleasant. Many corners of the rooms, especially in the bathroom, including the bathroom floor, were covered in dark mold. Most of the surfaces haven't been cleaned - you could see spots of toothpaste on the furniture. The showerhead looked like a health hazard and had no hot water. After we complained we did get 1 room (out of 2) with a hot water shower. And reading the previous reviews you could see they already knew of this problem. Still, the new room had the same issues. The AC was impossible to set to any temperature or wind strength - no matter the setting it was always producing a weak stream of cold air. So we were forced to sleep in our jackets and pants, even though it was still very hard - the smell of mold, humidity, dust and overall wear and tear of the bungalow we were staying in had made it very hard. We couldn't find another place since we arrived quite late. We left the next day as soon as possible. We did get our "lunch boxes" of a couple of fruits, a bottle of water, and a jam pastry, but that was a very small consolation. I'm fine with things being simple and not extravagant or luxury. I was expecting a bed and a decent shower, nothing more. But this was a full-on health hazard. I myself had to take an allergy pill because of all the mold spores I breathed in. Stay away!
