The Gateway at Hest Bank

The room was very clean and spacious. The beds were comfortable, and the general presentation of the property was immaculate (save one or two cobwebs that we did notice.) Angela was friendly and welcoming. The breakfast supplied was good.

There wasn't really anything that we didn't like, but I would issue one or two "advisories" for future guests. Little things, but important to note. 1) In the family room, the bathroom has a large obscured glass panel in the door. We kind of wished it could have been a little more obscured, as anyone going about their ablutions could be clearly observed from the room. One to bear in mind. 2) The taps foxed me for a little while (I was probably tired after a 6 hour drive.) Most taps follow the "lefty, loosey, righty, tighty" principle. The ones fitted (new, modern retro styled) were the other way round - turn clockwise to turn on. 3) Hest Bank is an incredibly quiet place - other than the odd train rumbling through at speed there isn't a lot there of an evening. The Hest Bank pub serves excellent food - in all, the place would appeal to the kind of person who wants peace and quiet. Morcambe is just down the road for those who want a little more life. 4) The hotel describes itself as having "High class en suite rooms." They are good, comfortable and nice to stay in, but if you are going to add the label "High Class" then you better be prepared for a bit of flack from any local boutique hotels opening up who will be targeting the "High Class" market. Personally, I am more comfortable with "High quality", which sounds similar but in my opinion is a better reflection.

Well appointed and comfortable, with very welcoming hosts. Delicious breakfast.

We were heading north up the M6 and this was perfect for a stopover. Good location, nice sized and comfortable room and a lovely shower in a separate (but private) bathroom. Good parking at the rear of property away from the main road. Great breakfast.

Nothing.

I was very well looked after, I only stayed a night, I left too early for breakfast so Angela prepared a lovely packed lunch for me. It's a lovely guesthouse, good value for money and Angela is a wonderful host.

Angela was very welcoming and helpful, there is a couple of off road parking spaces at rear of property and unrestricted parking on nearby road, there is also a lovely courtyard area. The room was very cosy and homely, bed very comfy, breakfast was lovely, a good choice of cereals, fruit etc, and a full english. I was only staying 1 night and the Gateway fulfilled all my needs, if I ever go back to Morcambe I will definitely be booking here again. PS There is a pub "The Hest Bank" just a few minutes walk away, had a lovely evening meal there.

I did not dislike anything

Located within 5 minutes walk from both the beach and the Lancaster Canal. Buses to and from both Lancaster and Morecambe center a similar distance. On and off road parking for motorists etc. I stayed in the flat at the top of the house - quiet, well planned and with views across the bay at the front of the house, and onto the (award winning) guest house garden, and hillside at the back. Comfortable bed and a quiet location Continental breakfast is included in the daily rate. I need gluten free so the kitchenette was supplied with GF cereal, yoghurt, assorted fresh berries, apples and the makings of tea, coffee and hot chocolate. (Replenished daily)

There wasn't much not to like. But note that there are 2 flights of stairs to the top floor and no lift.

Location. Sea view from the bedroom. Close to Morecambe. Just off the M6. Off road parking. Sun came out :-) Angela, the host was very affable. Breakfast very comprehensive and well cooked. Pub 100 yds served good dinner.
