Sima Sumba Hotel

Although West Sumba is nature tourists destinations such as beaches, ethnic villages houses and other cultural which most of the accommodations are at the beach, but there is only decent and good hotel called SIMA opened recently. The hotel is good for normal meetings but also good stay facilitated with swimming pool, gym, restaurant, cafe and meeting rooms.

The breakfast buffet…. Due to minimal tourism the food is reused and doesn’t look fresh. The a la carte and regular menu though is perfect. The food is spectacular. I’m sure when it is busy the breakfast is good but I do not recommend if it is not busy.

It is a new and nicely furnished hotel. Staff was kind, but most of them didn’t understand English enough. The room was spacious and bed was comfortable. There was a big pool, but we didn’t use it. Everything was clean, but the finishing works on the building were not up to 4 star hotel.

They didn’t have the food on the menu, also the drinks were not available in normal quantities for such a big hotel, e.g. first evening they had only 3 bottles of Coke. Usually I don’t drink it, but sparkling water was also not available. I must emphasise that other than that hotel, you can’t go anywhere else in Tambolaka. There are no restaurants or bars. There is nothing to do after dinner. Airco in our room didn’t work properly first night, but they repaired it after our complaint.

We stayed here as a large group for a week. We absolutely loved Sima Sumba! Everything is new and beautiful. The bed was fantastic. The room had a desk and a hot water kettle, with tea and powdered coffee provided. The bathroom was super modern, with a gorgeous waterfall shower (certainly guilt-inducing when you become aware that Sumba is a fairly arid island). They provided toiletries like toothbrushes and shampoo/body wash (they are large, refillable bottles, which I love for the environment!). The AC worked well. Laundry services are available. The restaurant was fantastic. The buffet breakfast had lots of choices every day, including a made-to-order omelet station. There was a mix of Indonesian and Western choices. We ate several dinners there, too. The portions are huge! We enjoyed almost everything we ordered (the barramundi was a rare miss), with highlights being the different soups (including Sumbanese chicken soup), the amazing roasted bananas, and the delicious juice and smoothies. They also offered delightful room service on the nights we were too tired to eat in the restaurant. No one in our group had any stomach issues, so the hygiene is perfect. They even have a separate cafe that makes excellent espresso drinks! The pool was lovely! We didn't try the spa. The staff were all so friendly and tried hard. Some weren't super proficient in English, so we had a few miscommunications, mostly about bills. But honestly that's on us, because we are the ones visiting Indonesia and should have tried to communicate in the local language! We also rented 2 of their conference rooms for an event that we held. The conference rooms were spacious and well appointed. They brought out a lovely snack buffet in the middle of the day. I can't wait for my next visit to Sima Sumba Hotel! Helpful tip: Their outlets are universal, so I didn't even need to use my adapter!

Very nice facilities and super hospitality, with a very helpful staff.

At checkin, the process was very brief. The front office staff were warm and respectful. The range of food at breakfast was relatively extensive. I didn't expect that. The service staff were friendly.

The fact that there were not one but three stray cats roaming around and howling at the dining tables at the exterior part of the restaurant. We felt irritated and disturbed by their presence. A restaurant, especially hotel restaurant should not have these animals around. The other downside is the wifi signal. We were given the login details but these proved useless as the signal was non-existent. We informed the hotel about this before we left.

A stay at Sima Hotel in Tambolaka was unforgettable. This place perfectly combines luxury with the authentic charm of Sumba Island. I highly recommend it to anyone seeking tranquility, stunning views, and a genuine Indonesian experience.

I went to Sumba on November 2024, and spent 3 days only at Sima Sumba Hotel. My first impression about that hotel is elegant and modern (compare to the building/hotel around it). The bedroom is clean and neat. They have great decoration that show the culture of Sumba the horses and other symbol, and the staff are friendly.
