""A great stay!""

8.0

We have been staying at Bluff Shoal Motel for the last four or five years. If you're looking for countless amenities this is not the place. But if you want a clean room with a attentive person named Cissy and be located in the heart of the village this is it. You can sit out back on their dock and enjoy Silver Lake and a great view of the lighthouse. Or you can sit out front and watch the world go by. We can stay at another motel but we prefer the nostalgia of this motel. We will return again next year!

"We stay here every year"

10.0

Best place in Ocracoke to stay if you're a couple. The location is great. We go every year and park our car in front of our room and ride bikes the whole time we are there. The rooms are extra clean and you can't beat the price.

"Disappointing"

4.0

We spent one of our two nights on Ocracoke at this motel, mainly because we could not find another hotel with availability. We were traveling with our pre-teen sons, and had not been to the island before. We are used to staying in chain hotels (Hampton Inn, Embassy Suites, etc.) and knew not to expect anything like that on this small, beachy island. Our first night was spent in a lovely inn with a water-view balcony (which unfortunately was booked for the second night of our stay). First, let me say that the Bluff Shoal motel room was clean and the lady in the office was friendly enough. But the room itself is ancient (except for a small, wall-mounted flat screen TV) and DARK. Only one small window faces the water at the rear of the motel, and only if you're lucky enough to get one of the end rooms that isn't blocked by another building. The largest window faces the front porch/parking lot/main street and unless you want everyone looking in at you, is not very useful. This motel has no privacy. It's right on the main road from the ferry and has a popular restaurant 20 yards across the street. On the night we stayed, this restaurant had live (loud) music until 10 pm. Sounded like we were right there. Also, the people staying in the motel gathered on the front porch laughing and talking until midnight - not conducive to a good night's sleep, and not very family-friendly. I guess some people might like this motel for the very reasons we didn't. It's noisy, social and very much in the thick of things, if you like that. The room itself is very basic - comfortable is not how I would describe it - but that is reflected in the price. Unfortunately, it was not a good fit for us.
