Bedroom on third floor. A lot of stairs to climb for mid 70’s couple one of whom had double knee replacement! Very small bedroom.

Staff were friendly and attentive. The food was good, and the bar welcoming.

The stairs to the rooms were steep and would not be easy for all. Parking was a difficulty. Public car parks had to be used and these were close and safe, but very expensive.

The staff, without exception, were welcoming, very helpful and considerate and all seemed happy with their jobs and work colleagues. They were professional, efficient and a joy to have around. The best I have experienced in a long time.

Booking.com's use of AI to answer my question about car parking - it simply said free parking was available. In fact it is only available (and for strictly limited periods) in the narrow residential streets around. The hotel staff were much clearer, sending an e-mail pointing me in the direction of the nearest and cheapest 'pay and display' and the Canterbury Parking dept were able to give me details and costs over the phone before I set off for Whitstable. It's good job I didn't rely on booking.com and a lesson to not trust them in future.

It was v cold - but it was arctic outside

Location, comfort, decor, restaurant, bar, warmth (it was below zero outside but bedroom was toasty), bathroom and shower. Already knew the Duke was brilliant for gluten-free and it was.

Decaf coffee was not supplied in room and person who showed to room thought the red one was the decaf. Had to look up Nespresso website to check and was glad I did as I cannot take caffeine for medical reasons.

Modern decor; convenience of eating delicious food in house.

It is a bit noisy on the main road.
