Sonder Market Hall

Sonder cancelled my booking (which had been confirmed for around 11 months) the day before I was due to check in. Their excuse being no remaining room availability. This left me high and dry for Chicago marathon weekend. Their “help” desk were very apologetic but not helpful in the slightest. They stated that they didn’t always necessarily honour rooms booked through booking.com (although they gratefully accept reservations). In summary unless you are happy taking a risk I would AVOID AT ALL COSTS - DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY

Perfect locations for our stay. We went to a concert at the United Center. Bed was very comfortable and loved having the small kitchen, which is bigger than in a standard hotel.

Unfortunately, the elevator broke a few days before our stay, which meant we had to carry everything up 5 flights of stairs.

The room was clean. The location was convenient. WiFi was free and reliable. All the amenities you'd expect in a studio apartment: fridge, dishwasher, stove, microwave, plates, etc. Customer service can be reached by phone at all hours.

There is a nightclub on the first floor that plays pulse-pounding club music from around 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. Wed thru Sat. We were on the second floor. The noise was so loud, it was impossible to sleep. We asked to be moved but a customer service rep said they couldn't move us. We left the hotel after two nights, even though we had paid for three. We complained and got a partial refund for one night. The fine print on the second page of the confirmation indicates guests "may hear some noise." They offer ear buds and a white noise machine, which is a joke. The whole room vibrates from 10 to 2 a.m. There is no place to eat in the hotel, no fitness center, no staff (except cleaning) on duty. The elevator is broken and boarded up.

The location is a good one. You can get on the train near by, rent some bikes or scooters to go exploring, night life and restaurant offer pretty good variety.

Long waits for housekeeping -2+ hours for items that should have been in the room -no working elevator- no sort of notice or heads up- I’d call first flights of stairs each time you come and go is brutal!!

The room was nice. It felt cozy and it had a good view. We were attending a concert a few miles away and the location of the hotel was very convenient. Could have lived in the room longer it was comfortable.

Elevator was broken and we were on the 5th floor, it had been clearly broken for some time. The comforter was cheap and it had clearly accumulated lint on the inside, making it lumpy. The apartment window didn't open (not sure if by design), one side of the glass shower didn't open (would have been convenient if it could so one could turn on the shower without getting hit by cold water), no hooks to hang towels or shelf in shower for you to place your own products. There isn't guaranteed parking, we got lucky to get a free spot in front but there was no real designated parking.

This was a great place to stay and great location! Our room was a great layout and exactly what we needed. We loved the close proximity to United Center for a concert, as well as being close to the train for exploring the city.

There are two reasons I didn't give a higher rating. The elevator was broken so dragging all of our belongings for a long weekend up and down four flights of stairs was not ideal, to say the least. Free parking was available in front of the building and we easily found a spot upon arrival. As I'm assuming most people do when traveling to the city, we didn't move or use our car again until the day we left.....only to find a ticket saying apparently street sweepers came through one of the days and our car wasn't moved. We are from a small town in Ohio and would never have known or thought to check the street daily for such signs to move our car. Knowing that guests of the Sonder are encouraged to utilize free street parking, it would have been nice if they could have sent out a warning about the street cleaners being in the area.

Sonder customer service was VERY responsive and helpful. We asked to check in 20 minutes early and within minutes of contacting them, there was someone at our door helping us. The room was adorable, worth the price, and in a GREAT location. I will absolutely be using Sonder again.
