Desolation Hotel Hope Valley

It was very cozy and pleasant.

It was not the property but the rainy weather at this time of the year. Staff said that it came early.

We love our Wagon Wheel cabin and its amenities, it's perfect for my mom and I who were chasing autumn leaves for the season. The meal we ordered from Sorenson's was just right after a long drive from the East Bay Area. There was a complimentary 45-min private sauna but you have to schedule it as soon as possible as they get booked quickly. Overall, it was very pleasant walking around and going back to the check-in counter just to see smiling and friendly staff who are very warm and helpful. We will definitely come back; next time in better weather conditions 😊 It's much more than I expected for a cabin accommodation.

Communication with guest services via text was smooth and efficient — I always received quick responses whenever I had questions. We absolutely loved our stay at the Sierra House Cabin. Everything was clean, spacious, and well-equipped with eating supplies, cooking essentials, and even oil and spices. We also explored the campground area and got some awesome ideas for summer camping next time. We enjoyed relaxing by the firepit and visiting the kids’ fishing pond. It would’ve been even more fun if there were some cornhole or yard games for kids at Aspen Grove. We also went to a nearby café in Markleeville for breakfast — it would be great if there was an option for breakfast at the in-house café, or maybe a small store with basics like eggs, canned goods, and bread for those who prefer to cook in the cabin. Overall, such a wonderful stay — we can’t wait to come back next time! ❤️

Everything . Clean. The kitchen has everything you might need for cooking. Spices, olive oil, coffee, tea. Bathrobes, toiletries. A fireplace in the room.

We showed up to this beautiful resort to see the fall colors, it did not disappoint. We stayed in a yurt next to the river, it was glorious! Dog friendly was a plus. We will be back!

Our room was very clean and the they had great pet options. Pets are very welcome! The Dyson blow dryer was a nice added touch…it worked amazing! Also loved the Sauna! The highway noise is very loud. And the heater kept making noise all night. We stayed in the Redwood room, very close to the highway. Wish there was a Sunday breakfast or brunch to eat. The bed could have been more comfy…felt like a futon.

This whole property is like a good dream. The team at Desolation has thought of everything. Truly magical this time of year!
