Location was lovely and the room was comfortable and thoughtfully appointed for a short stay. Yummy breakfast with quality food choices.

Check in was a little confusing as we knocked on the rear door of the property after parking as directed. We were then told to go to the front door, so extra information about entry might be helpful. Breakfast timing was a little restrictive as we went down 10 minutes later than expected on the second morning and it appeared to have caused a problem.

Great B&B and in a fantastic location of Portinscale. Clive and Caroline are very welcoming and I look forward to staying with them again in the future. Accommodation was great in the Shepherds Hut for a single person, they had thought of everything.

Outstanding! I honestly have no words if I was to write the review based on my experience it would be a whole books worth of positive comments! There was no room for improvement here because everything was 100% perfect! Caroline and Clive from the very beginning communicated with me when I asked them if I could have a room for the night before I’d booked and they sorted this for me the same evening. Their correspondence was so quick and very friendly also! I couldn’t ask for a more amazing stay - I was recommended walks, hikes, wild swims and restaurants which I am most grateful for. Clive and Caroline told me where I could find the infinity pool at Buttermere which I wouldn’t have known about without their help and I had the best time! I also enjoyed the country walk to Keswick Saturday evening which was also recommended by the couple. The Shepherds Hut was unbelievably amazing - for a single person or solo traveller it’s just perfect as it’s amongst the most beautiful garden full of colourful flowers and garden tables which I could sit at reading my book. The breakfast was bang on! Really enjoyed it and I mentioned black pudding the previous evening and to my surprise it was on my plate the next morning! Absolutely over the moon. This establishment could not do anything more for me! I will be returning at some point this year to tick off Helvellyn as I honestly would not stay anywhere else in this part of the Lakes after finding this perfect gem! Thank you so much, Lindsay x

The only one thing if im being super picky is my sat nav took me to the turning on the left just before the hotel but I wouldn’t say that this is down to the fault of the hotel. It was easily rectified as I popped into the b and b where the sat nav had taken me to. And to be honest I found the perfect spot pretty much outside The Mount so there was no need for me to ask about the car park. Literally this is not a negative at all as it could of been an issue with my sat nav but I should thought I’d mention it incase you want to add some notes to ‘directions’ or the ‘parking’ section. Honestly did not bother me at all though

Beautiful place with special atmosphere of English country side. Great breakfast in a shared dinning table with the other guests. The hosts know the area very well and gave recommendations for routes, restaurants. We hope to come back soon! a

Owners - Clive and Caroline were exceptional hosts! They gave us great advice as to where to go and shared interesting information -including to look out for the aurora as there was a lot of solar activity at that time The breakfast was amazing! I really enjoyed the avocado and ava egg! Even the butter and marmalade toast tastes better here!

The breakfast each morning was excellent and generous, and the hosts were enormously helpful with maps and recommendations about the history of the area and great hikes to do.
