The Rock House - Terrace Apartment - in Heart of the City

The noise insulation between our apartment and the one upstairs could be better.

It was quiet but very central to the city. It was spacious and very clean, comfortable also a secure location.

Nothing wrong with the property at all. Only suggest to have more mirrors within the property as there is only one in the bathroom.

This is a first choice accomodation to enjoy Edinburgh. Situated at the foot of Calton Hill through an exclusive gated entrance. So it is secure. We came by car and a managed parking option was provided with discount. The house itself is a historical property with all the requirements for a listed building. The Rock House is an experience as much as it is an accommodation. The view of the city is lovely from the courtyard. The interior of the house is modest with pictured echoes from its storied past. Lovely comfy sofas, well appointed kitchen, and a deep old fashioned tub and separate shower feature in the bathroom. The floors are wooden and in part carpeted with jute throughout the living area and bedrooms. The beds are simple on old fashioned frames; one double sized and two twins. The feeling of stepping back into simpler times was very present. The location is excellent, close to everything wonderful Edinburgh offers. Also just opposite the entrance, climb stairs and walk up to the top of Calton Hill when at the Rock House and see the fantastic vistas of this delightful city.

To say there is something I did not like would reflect inaccurately on my experience of Rock House at Calton Hill. More helpful would be to say this is not a place to stay for someone who cannot handle many stairs. If bringing luggage and small children realise you will tote them up the steps to the house! There is no on street parking nearby. Your best option would be to unload streetside and then park your vehicle at the car park recommended by the managers of the house. If travelling by public transportation, of course parking is of no concern. This is not a stay at Marriott or Premier Inn. It is an old historical house with features from the nineteenth and early twentieth century. The house is very clean and offers lovely points of comfort with great bath towels, bed linens, comfy sofas and equipped modern kitchen and bathroom. I cannot say enough about how delightful the house is. However, it is an experience for those who are fully ambulatory. The house has something romantic about it. Just remember the beds are firm and old fashioned and the strength of them could be tested with too much raucous activity! The neighbours could hear you, but that is part of the fun.

The Rock House was a perfect base for our time in Edinburgh, it would be perfect for a longer stay, with a well equipped kitchen and cozy lounge, but also great for two nights as easy to get to from the airport and close to two tram stops. Well located for all the main sights with a short walk to the Royal Mile.

Great location. Very comfortable overall. Loved the bathroom and kitchen decor.

Would be better to have a default check-in time of 2/3pm especially as the check-out time is 10am. The property did let us check in early though on request.

Superb location walkable to everything. Washer and dryer on site.

Noise from neighbours. Guess owner has no control over that. Hefty cleaning fee for a short stay.

The history of the rock house, the closeness to all the main sites. The little secret gate to get in. It was a magical experience. Well equipped kitchen, livingroom and bedrooms. We loved it and hope to come back soon.

Only thing we found a slight problem was the lack of mirrors, only one in the bathroom.

this property was a hidden, historic gem in the middle of the city! So quaint, cozy, and comfortable

the only thing we could mention was the mirrors …we wished the bedrooms had some sort of mirror in each of them. We were 3 women, all getting ready at the same time. The bathroom had one small mirror, but a mirror in each bedroom would have been super helpful! Otherwise this place was great!!
