Bear Cottage

Its location and was very quiet

This has been our favourite so far and we've stayed at a lot of places. We had our own little cottage with a fully equipped kitchen and lounge with Netflix and prime logged in. It was super clean, modern and comfortable. Loads of memorabilia to keep you entertained. We didn't want to leave it was so cosy. Dave was friendly and helpful. We didn't see him again after he showed us around. You travel a mile down a lane and its the first place you see. Next to a beautiful brook. It was very picturesque and I kept expecting to see the forest creatures.

It's very quiet. The heating worked well. Great shower.

The long single track road leading to the property is not for the faint hearted, it's full of potholes and ruts. There is no mobile phone signal at the property, which is even more concerning when you see how many skulls and references to zombies there are in the decor. The kitchen has only one socket for all appliances and the work surfaces are grubby. The whole place needs a proper deep clean and scrub; the kitchen surfaces are tacky to the touch and there are dust and cobwebs in the nooks and crannies. The bathroom sink takes ages to drain and the towels and sheets didn't feel fresh. The bedroom door doesn't close because the bed is too long and the windows all need cleaning and better latches. The place lacks the female touch - it's like a man cave that was thrown together some decades ago and never had an update or a proper hoover round. You also have to be careful walking in the parking area where you risk treading in dog excrement.

Enjoyed the quiet, secluded location in a beautiful valley by a river with woodland all around. The cottage was well furnished & equipped and large enough for a long-weekend stay. Lots of pictures & memorabilia featuring classic film stars added a quirky attraction and gave the decor character The beds were comfortable and we slept well.

Whilst the kitchen area in the living space ingeniously planned and had everything you needed for a short stay it was nonetheless a little bit tight in places and work surface was inevitably at a premium. This was NOT a problem for us.

Location was great. The road to it feels long but isn't really. In bad weather maybe a bit more care needed.

Great hosts, Cottage is located in a quiet small valley far away. Perfect for a longer stay, we sadly only had one night. No cell service, but fast internet with Netflix available. Lots of movie memorabilia as decoration.

Drive up to the cottage can be a bit intimidating, but you can trust Google Maps
