"Disappointing and overpriced"

3.0

Very big and comfortable bed and the room was nicely decorated. We love the Heathcock as a pub and were looking forward to trying their room for a stay.

The tiny fridge was so noisy we had to switch it off and hope the milk stayed fresh so we could at least have a cup Of tea in the morning as there are no breakfast facilities and not so much as a biscuit supplied with the tea and coffee in the room. We were promised pastries in the morning but none came and when the staff arrived at ten and we asked in the pub, they just disappeared and never came back. The shower looked lovely but was just a trickle so it took ages to rinse my hair. It was shocking value as we paid £215 for room only for some reason although it looks like it is normally £100.

"Lucky locals, wonderful pub with great food"

8.0

Charming pub, amazing dinner the night I stayed. Room was lovely, stairwell a bit tired

It would be good to be offered breakfast, it was not clear that it was not an option when booking. Upon arrival they said there was a voucher for their sister bakery that wasn’t in the guest folder in the room and didn’t materialise. Given there are a lot of staff about, and the restaurant is exceptional, offering breakfast would be nice, especially as the room was £100. To offer a continental breakfast, even in a paper bag in the fridge in the room, would be a nice touch

"What an adventure! We survived the surprises, met great staff, dined superbly and slept well"

8.0

Staff were universally brilliant. The room was fabulous, well-equipped and spacious. The food and wine in the restaurant, as well as the choice, was stellar. We could have been in France; it was that good. We will be back for a more leisurely lunch with good wine on a suitable occasion. The breakfast not being at the place where we slept was a shock, yet it turned out to be fabulous. It was a very wet Sunday morning of Storm Bert so whether it would always be easy to get a table etc is another matter. The service there was exceptional and food not far short.

Getting from bar to room is up two flights of steep stairs. It’s not really suitable for older, or less mobile, guests. This is why we said we’d not stay there again. Younger, fitter, folk are perfectly fine and should not let our comments deter them. The staff and team there deserve success for their effort and style they invest in the business and their customers. The info on Booking.com says a Full English breakfast available at the property. The hotel’s website is much clearer. Clearer, or more highlighted, info on getting to the rooms is needed, in our view. We also managed to miss that there was no onsite parking, although did manage to get a spot only a couple of minutes away. Replies to emails could be very slow ahead of our visit, however, near or on the day, they were brilliant including phoning to check we were still coming for dinner, as it was near kitchen closing time.

"Lovely room, the sort that makes you say wow and instantly post photos on your socials."

9.0

Beautiful room with accommodating chef in the restaurant. I have some food intolerances and usually check that the restaurants can accommodate but didn't get the chance before arriving. There was nothing suitable to eat on the menu but the chef was able to pull a five star meal out of the bag.

All good. The rooms are above a pub so two flights of stairs up but the restaurant and bar downstairs are amazing so makes up for the climb.

"Excellent rooms with friendly welcoming staff, and perfect location in Llandaff."

9.0

Beautifully furnished and comfortable rooms, with sockets in the right place and coffee and tea making facilities. Fresh milk provided with a tiny fridge is a nice touch. Bed was very comfy with plump pillows and plenty of cushions - the extra blanket was appreciated.

Teething problem I think - the overflow on the bath was not fully connected/flush with the side so it leaked onto the floor. Reported and I'm sure will be remedied. And adjunct to that a bath mat would be useful!

"Good food, nice rooms, great staff , little bit of work needed but nearly there!"

8.0

The staff and facilities are lovely and on face value it's a nice guest house style place to stay. Food was excellent in the restaurant and good choice of drinks.

I think if the comfort of the room is to be improved the hotel need to replace the windows in room 3 to reduce the road noise as the traffic noise was unbearable until around 2am. They also need to fill the gap at the bottom of the bedroom door in room 3 as the light from the hallway flooded the room and it was very bright. The other issue is that there was no hand soap on the sink.
