Did not like it at all. The host are not interested in hospitality. Very rude! The place with full of signs and warning which makes you run away from the place. Dont do this, dont do that. If you do this, there will be fine if you do this. Entered our room without telling us when we were away. Place wasn't cleaned properly. Cowboy operation it is!

We loved the hilly setting and the studio was lovely

The location is amazing, and the cottage is nice, as well as the garden We were looking for a stay with a view and that exactly what we've got 💕

The house rules, or rather the tone of the way they are written, made us feel unwelcome

That we didn't book for longer .

The location of The Big "W" Ranch is hard to beat. Set up on the hillside, you have magnificent views of the valley. The Ranch is near Wast Water, meaning that it is close to so many lovely walking trails that you will have a hard time choosing. It is also close enough to the sea and other tourist sites (i.e. Muncaster Castle) that you will have those as easy options as well. The room itself was clean and comfortable with plenty of space for our family of three. The beds were very comfortable and had end tables and outlets nearby for charging and setting books/water. The bathroom was a good size with a wonderful rainfall showerhead. The kitchen is well set up with a full sized fridge/freezer, hob, stove, etc.

Nasty host. We were one hour away from the accommodation. We booked this as it was stated “Pets Allowed” on Booking.com. Now this doesn’t stipulate specific pets, it generalises on Booking.com as “Pets” we believed this to be domestic pets (dogs and cats) not lamas or snakes as the host said “domestic pets” could mean. We had previously spent 3 nights in an Air BnB that permitted “pets” and our cat. We telephoned ahead to this accommodation (Wast Water Cottage) to see if we could arrive a little earlier as we wanted to hike in that area. The host said we weren’t allowed to take our cat unless he was in a crate which we didn’t have with us! He declined to accommodate us and stated it was at Booking.com’s discretion to refund us. Which he then responded when we requested for this via Booking.com that he would give us a 40% refund. Which almost one week later he hasn’t actioned to send us and also left a bitter nasty reply to a review on Google about this. This is most upsetting given it ruined the end of our holiday and we went home a day early. We were under the illusion pets meant any domesticated pet. He stated that on the actual website for the accommodation it stipulates what animals are allowed. But we didn’t book via his website. We used Booking.com which he could write his own terms on and could have stipulated in the terms here which domestic animals he accepts. He said our cat could pee and tore his furniture. Our cat is house trained. Neutered. And uses a litter tray. He is well travelled. We feel cheated out of our money and upset he won’t grant us a full refund given he declined our stay and cut our holiday in the Lakes short. Giving ridiculous reasons about a domestic pet could be anything and blamed booking.com for not stipulating more detail. Something he could actually write in his own rules section of booking.com

Great set up. Helpful guide book/manual. Idyllic and peaceful.

We didn’t realise there was accommodation above when we booked. The noise travelled downstairs a little.
