Royal York & Faulkner Hotel

The location was great . It was on the sea and near the town . The view was good . The porter and also main waiter was very helpful . The breakfast was good with excellent service

When we arrived the lift didn’t work . We were helped to our room but it was 3 Floors up and a long walk and was like being in the attic . The room was boiling so we asked for a fan. The room was small and the bathroom really small. The decor and furniture were really old fashioned . When the lift worked it was so tiny and with our luggage we just about fitted in . It was very scary and we thought it was going to break down . I wouldn’t go in it on my own. We didn’t get a very good welcome when we arrived apart from the porter . The parking space is very limited .

The position of the hotel was excellent great views across the bay. The hotel looked fantastic

The room we stayed in was like a tropical forest The towel rail in the bathroom was on. Even after reporting twice it remained the same.

Position. Clean comfortable Traditional with good food and attentive staff and nice lounges with a bar which had entertainment on some evenings. Also access to a spa and a nearby swimming pool. Although parking was limited a member of staff took charge of moving cars to make these easier.

As it was a last minute booking we had a room on a higher floor during the heatwave so it was very hot. We were provided with a fan however and there was little more that could be done under exceptional circumstances

Car parking was a nightmare. Very limited spaces dedicated to the hotel. Free street parking but was nearly always full. Town car park close by but has to be paid between 8am and 6pm. Stayed during a heatwave but even so the single room at the top of the hotel was like an oven, getting full afternoon sun and no airflow through the room. Felt like sleeping in a sauna.

Fantastic location, great sea views, lovely staff, and a beautiful regency building. The ‘silver service’ breakfast was a refreshing change from the usual ‘serve yourself’ buffet scrum in many hotels.

The only reason we didn’t give 10/10 was the lack of air conditioning (or at least a larger, more effective, fan in our lovely upstairs room). However, we were there in a heatwave and I’m sure this wouldn’t be a problem at other times.

Great location on the seafront and very nice breakfast.
