I had the absolute pleasure of staying at Sama Sama Homestay, and it was a truly unforgettable experience. This lovely, locally run family business offers not just a place to sleep, but a warm, genuine connection to the local culture and people. The family who runs the homestay is incredibly kind, welcoming, and generous. From the moment I arrived, I felt like part of their home. They were always happy to chat, share stories, and offer great advice on what to see and do in the area. The rooms are clean, cozy, and thoughtfully decorated—perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring. I was also able to have my laundry washed, which was a huge help during my trip. Whenever I was hungry or thirsty, I could ask for a meal or water, and they always made sure I had what I needed. The home-cooked food was absolutely delicious and made with fresh, local ingredients. Another amazing aspect was that the jungle tour was organized directly from the homestay and started right there. Everything was arranged smoothly, and it was such a convenient and exciting way to experience the incredible nature nearby. If you’re looking for a place with heart, authenticity, and a true sense of community, Sama Sama Homestay is the perfect choice. I’m so grateful for the experience and can’t wait to come back. I had a wonderful stay at Sama Sama Homestay in Bukit Lawang! Jakub and Ema were incredibly welcoming and always happy to help with anything I needed. From the moment I arrived, they made me feel completely at home. The bed was really comfortable, and the WiFi was reliable—perfect for staying connected while relaxing in the jungle. Every morning, Ema prepared a delicious breakfast, which was such a lovely way to start the day. The whole atmosphere was warm and friendly, and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Highly recommend to anyone visiting Bukit Lawang!

A real surprise find, Sama-Sama Homestay ended up being our favourite space we stayed in during our time in North Sumatra. Yakup and Ema were incredibly kind and gracious hosts, they made themselves available to help with any queries we had and made our time in Bukit Lawang so much nicer. The location was phenomenal, right by the river and made it incredibly easy to access other parts of the town, our stay was comfortable and pleasant. While the room itself is simple, there is a lovely decking area with a table and two hammocks that provided ample relaxation space during the days and evenings, and was definitely made the most of. Yakup helped to arrange a camping trek into the local jungle, which turned out to be a fantastic experience. We did a two day one night excursion (2D1N) and our guides, Kamal and Toni, were a wealth of knowledge on the local flora and fauna but also incredibly kind and conversational. They took us through all kinds of areas to spot orangutans, and the provided fruits and meal were of an incredibly high standard. Definitely raised the bar for what constitutes camping food! The final rafting ride down the river through the village was wonderful fun, would recommend you invest in a waterproof camera to capture that! All in all I would recommend Sama-Sama to anyone and everyone. The kindness and support of the hosts made our stay a breeze, and they were also kind enough to pass on local recommendations for food and laundry, extending our enjoyment to other places too. We'd absolutely look at booking with them if we are in the area again.

This is a place you keep extending and extending. Ema and Jakub are so kind and welcoming and they do everything they can to help you. You can book the Jungle trekking with Jakub with the local guides from Bukit Lawang. We really love this place and definitely recommend to stay here!
