Charming old Inn. Sympathetically renovated.

This is a lovely old pub with bags of character.The staff were extremely friendly and very efficient. The room was very comfortable with a good supply of toiletries. Streaming available on tv and plenty of tea and coffee. The evening meal and breakfast were very good quality and plenty of it

The chef was ill on our second night. Would have been helpful to inform guests as we planned to eat there that night. But the staff were extremely helpful and recommended several other local options.

There was only cooked breakfast available, no cereal, yogurt or fruit and when I asked for marmalade the jar was put on the table. We ended up going to the supermarket to buy our own food.when we spoke to the owner he really wasn't interested.

The rooms are apacious and have recently been modernised. Beds are comfortable with good qualiity linens. With a few issues ironed out, this accommodation coud be excellent. Bathroom was spacious and hot water plentiful. Showers were easy to use and towels were good. Most furnishings in room were very good.

I think a mirror propped up against the bedroom wall is not safe with children around. It should be attached to the wall. The screws were taped to the back of the mirror and it was useless on the floor. Could not find a hairdryer. A guest fridge in the lobby would be a good idea to store milk for tea and coffee in room. No milk in room. Clear the lobby - it looked like a store room and not attractive. No wardrobe in a large room. Why not provide a small one or a closet? Breakfast - just odd. We did not know that by ordering a hot breakfast the night before, no order was taken for tea, coffee, orange juice, toast or anything else. No cereals offered on a buffet. No table set for us. Breakfast just arrived at the time we stated we would arrive and we had it in the bar. Two orders were wrong with eggs omitted. Just salmon on toast was served. So breakfast really needs to change. I woud suggest: use the dining area, put out a small cold buffet, let guests eat something from the buffet before serving hot food and always take an order for tea, coffee and toast. If small changes are introduced this is a very nice place.

The staff were lovely and friendly - there was a Summer Festival in the car park that ended at 7pm. The venue closed earlier than expected and we were the only ones booked into stay that night. We had a peaceful night and a fabulous breakfast in the morning.

The location was lovely - my husband and I booked to stay on a Sunday and has booked a Sunday lunch. The venue called me a week or so prior to our stay to say that they were holding a summer festival and therefore they would not be cooking, they advised that there would be food stalls at the venue that we could try. Sadly there were no food stalls on the Sunday but we did enjoy live music which was great. Being prepared I had packed a bag of treats which we ate in our room later on. The cleanliness of the room could have been better - the carpet needed hoovering as there were bits all over it. Also the bathroom mirror was smeary and there were hairs in the shower tray and on the floor in the bathroom (which when they are not yours in a bit gross)

Staff were exceptionally helpful on a very busy evening! Great surroundings in a recently renovated building. Good food and drink. The personal touch from the new landlord was very welcome.
