Vinu’s Place

Vidu and his family are very special people - warm, welcoming, kind and generous. They helped with everything from scooter rental to clothes washing and made us such delicious Sri Lankan breakfasts - we were even joined by a Peacock! Short walk to the beach in a peaceful area. Vidu took us to the local temple which was beautiful and enlightening. Everyone went above and beyond for us and we felt like family. The kind of place you are very sad to leave. Book it before we move in!

Vinu's place is a really nice place! We stayed for 5 nights in the groundfloor room and it was really comfortable! it's quiet and only a short walk to cafes, restaurants and the beach. The hosts are super friendly and helpful! The breakfast was diverse and introduced the delicious local kitchen.

The Wifi didn't work properly.

The apartment was amazing! We ended up staying 8 days instead of 4. The family were so nice and generous. The wildlife you can see from the balcony is amazing, langurs, macaques, peacocks and all different types of birds. Including a momma cat and her two skinny kitties we ended up feeding a lot! 🥲💔highly recommend this place. So much space in the sitting room to do yoga each morning and then enjoy your breakfast on the balcony.

Wonderful family hosts so helpful and friendly. Location was away from the busy streets with views over gardens not other buildings. There are only two rooms here, upstairs is spacious with lounge area, kitchen and balcony. Downstairs is smaller and has a patio with small kitchen and breakfast bar, both rooms with fans which is adequate. Dinner and breakfast were both high quality local food.

We loved everything about our stay. We had the upper room with a balcony, it was spacious and very comfortable! The access to the kitchen and the fridge was super handy but the breakfast prepared by the owner was a real gem! Delicious, huge portions and everyday something different so no boredom! The monkeys on the tees doing a performance every morning was something we didn’t experienced anywhere else. It’s like living in the jungle but still 10 walk to the beach. Totally recommend!

I liked it all. Nothing to complain about.

The room is really clean and confortable. There is also a fridge inside. The breakfast was great. The House is up the hill, so you‘ll have to walk about 8 minutes from the beach:

We had a wonderful stay with this incredibly hospitable family away from the touristy streets yet close enough to restaurants and the beach. Safe, clean, quiet, and breezy. We hope to come back soon.

I could write an essay. This is my fifth visit to SL & I've probably stayed in 50/60 different hotels, homestays etc in that time. I'm fairly certain that Vinu's Place is my favourite little spot I've ever found on the Island. It's up a hill, a 6/7 minute walk to the beach and also the main road....It's so quite and well priced. The family running the villa above their house are a delight, so friendly and generous. The villa is on its own, private entry, small clean private kitchen, large double bedroom, en suite, a living area which has two further beds (Queen & single that would work for small families on a budget) and a lovely little balcony. I spent hours on that balcony watching the 🐒🐒 playing 5/6 meters from you on the power lines. 20 different varieties of birds... And the last morning two new born kittens also showed up!! I kept expecting to see Sir David Attenborough emerge from the jungle!! Now we get to breakfast.. Wowser... Just stunning, from a whole perfectly grilled fish and potato curry, to a full rice and curry on the final morning...amazing guys thank you so much. If you are in Hiriketiya then try and book Vinu's.. You won't regret it. Finally a massive thank you to the wonderful Pradeepa and her magnificent kids, Shenu & Vin. I shall visit you again one day. There's nothing not to like.

Super nice family, spacious and clean apartment, the highlight is the bedroom with it's big cozy bed - we had a very good night sleep! We also enjoyed sitting on the balcony during the day and at night and got an awesome and very filling breakfast in the mornings - it was different every day during our 4-day stay (we extended!) Location is a bit up the hill tucked away from the more busy Hiriketya streets. Watch out for the banana thieves! 🐒
