"Passable"

5.0

The bar area was very nice, as was the food and the bar service was very good.

The bedroom was tiny. Had difficulty opening our suitcase fully - had to rearrange the furniture. Bathroom room was minute, shower fluctuated between very hot and very cold, mainly very cold. The room rate of £180 is outrageous, even accepting it's on the C2C path.

"Nice stay overall but not worth 195"

7.0

Location was great, food was really good. Decor was really nice! Guy who served us behind the bar and for food was great. I’m

Room was quite small and the shower/bathroom was small with low water pressure. Had to ask for the heating to be turned on as radiator not coming on so drying our clothes after a day from the coast to coast was difficult. It was a nice stay but probably not worth the 195 price.

"Nice rooms, perfect for walkers"

9.0

Right off the Coast to Coast path, which was great for a walker like me. Hot shower, comfortable bed, really friendly staff. Good food in the pub downstairs and seemed to be where many folks were eating, even those not staying there.

Everything was great, but just be aware if you need any services, shops or the bus station, it’s about a mile walk up the road. But if you’re doing Coast to Coast, it’s perfect! Also, I assume the rooms are priced competitively, but when I stayed lodging did seem particularly expensive for nice but ultimately straightforward accommodations.

"Excellent hiking pub"

Lovely location for hiking, excellent roast dinner. Good variety of beers including 2 cask ales. Barman had good chat and other staff helpful. Comfy bed. Sweeping fell views.

"Lovely location and welcome, but breakfast and comfort could improve."

8.0

We loved the location – perfect for exploring the Lakes, nearby hills, and attractions like Aira Force Waterfall. The rooms were a lovely surprise: clean, spacious, and the beds and pillows were super comfy – exactly what we needed after long drives and outdoor activities. The atmosphere felt authentic, with beautiful surroundings and even sheep nearby! Staff were genuinely kind and helpful – they greeted us warmly, showed us around, explained everything, and answered all our questions. It made us feel very welcome.

Unfortunately, there were a few downsides. The bunk bed in our second room was quite wobbly and noisy, which meant one of us kept waking up whenever the other turned. Parking was a bit confusing – the QR code didn’t ask for our car registration number, so we weren’t sure what exactly the £10 fee covered. It would be helpful if parking was either included or more clearly explained. The biggest letdown was breakfast – sadly, it was overcooked, dry, and almost inedible. Even the scrambled eggs were burnt, which was disappointing as we had really looked forward to it. Also, the smell of the burning logs in the breakfast room was quite overwhelming so early in the morning. There’s definitely charm to this place, and the hospitality stood out, but a few practical things need improvement for a better stay overall.
