Honey Horsefield Grade ll Cottage

The 17th C cottage which was very quirky and quaint. I loved the deep rolltop bath. It was like going back in time. The important places eg beds, fridge, clean. It was ok for our 2 nights stay.

The whole place could do with some TLC and basic maintainance to bring it up to the luxury standard I was lead to believe.

Rural location and clean bedding in main bedroom

The cottage was not clean, and was generally poorly kept. We booked three nights but left after two. The issues, below, are the main ones we noticed, but is not an exhaustive list: Both external doors are hard to open. Some windows are not able to be secured properly. No instruction books for appliances. No visitor book. Kitchen cupboard kicked in and the splintered wood left in situ. Under sink shelf broken and left in the cupboard. Exposed wires on plug near badly dented waste bin. Laundry left in washing machine. Coffee machine reportedly not working, but not a single coffee pod to use. Switch to turn on kettle is broken Two smoke detectors had batteries disconnected and left on work surface. Smoke detector at bottom of stairs had no battery Large, dirty, rusty stain beneath tray near sink. Advertising image shows items on tray not present upon our arrival. Fridge handle broken off. No tea towels. Sharp broken metal strip in front of woodburner. Unattractive jumble of wires to machines in recess to LHS of woodburner. Rickety daybed in lounge Rickety dining chair in lounge. Broken brass rail on front of woodburner. Dirty, rotting skirting board and dirty floor beside bath, with 3" hole. No non-slip mat for metal bath, nor anything to hold on to when getting in and out Gap in boards adj. to bath. NONE OF THIS IS ACCEPTABLE and shows contempt for your guests. Some of these issues have been mentioned in reviews by other guests, since we made our booking in April, and SHOULD HAVE BEEN ADDRESSED at the time. Other issues date back months, if not years. We would absolutely NOT recommend anyone staying here. Far from it. We were really looking forward to a lovely few days away and all we did was to constantly make excuses NOT to go back to the cottage and, as a result, spent money unneccessarily simply to avoid being there. After two unpleasant nights we moved out. We contacted the owners via a link on Booking.

This property was dirty and unsafe. The smoke alarms were disconnected, there is a door handle missing from a bedroom so you can't get out from the inside. there was rubbish and laundry left in a kitchen cupboard, another kitchen cupboard door is broken with large splinters of wood protruding and the kitchen had a swarm of ants. We didn't feel safe staying in the property at left late at night to book into a local Travelodge instead. We contacted the host the next day who said they would issue a full refund. Since then they have not answered any emails or their phone and we have not received a refund. AVOID THIS PROPERTY.

The advertisement for it looked really nice

There are several kitchen cupboards that have been kicked in. The bin has been kicked in. All the smoke alarms are disconnected . No towels. Washing machine doesn’t work. Unfortunately the list goes on .We left after an hour and booked a hotel elsewhere.

Locality was very pleasant and access to nearby places of interest good.

The property was shabby and the garden unkempt. There was an extendable daybed in the main room, taking up a large amount of space in the small room. The dining room table was badly placed under the wall mounted TV and the extension flaps when opened sloped badly and restricted space to an extent that it was not comfortable to use. The kitchen was very neglected. There was large rust stain on one of the countertops, the oven was so tightly placed next to the washing machine that it was not possible to open the oven door enough to alter shelf positions for cooking, the cabinet under the sink had a collapsed shelf and one of the cabinets had a panel missing from it. The fridge had lost its door handle and the interior light was not working. The bathroom had a constantly running hot tap, the extractor fan was not working and there was an infestation of ladybirds making showering and interesting experience. Obviously we are aware that the owners can not be held responible for the insects The main heating for some reason was not turned on so we had to rely on small fan heaters for warmth which ended up being on almost constantly due to not being able to close the kitchen door. There was no visitor handbook to refer to with regard to rubbish collection etc. We have used booking.com on many occasions and this has been nowhere near the high standards we have come to expect

Petit cottage sympa, toit de chaume, poutres apparentes. Relativement confortable mais...

Le cottage mérite un sérieux entretien. Si rien n'est fait il sera vite dans un état de délabrement avancé. Mais pour cela il faut investir. Le toit de chaume est dans un état déplorable. Énorme fuite d'eau dans la baignoire. Des mètres cubes perdus dans une journée. Rien n'a été fait malgré mes messages au propriétaire. Et le voisin m'a dit que cela durait depuis 3 semaines. Quel gaspillage! Dans la cuisine qui est très sombre, 4 spots sur 5 ne fonctionnait pas. Et là aussi aucune réponse positive du propriétaire. Poêle à bois inutilisable alors que ça pourrait apporter un plus. Tout cela laisse une sensation d'inachevé et c'est bien dommage car cet hébergement pourrait être fantastique.

The gorgeous smell throughout the cottage. Comfy bed, excellent linen and pillows. Beautifully laundered and ironed. Cleanliness of the property in particular kitchen , utensils crockery etc.

Taps leaking water from both the sink and bath tap. More than a drip from bath tap. Bathroom could do with new taps and a general tidy up. For us the bathroom did not match the standard of the rest of the property. A second sofa in the lounge would be more comfy to sit on. Maybe switched the day bed to the room over spiral staircase? Just a suggestion. The aluminium trim around the floor tiles by the fabulous fireplace is missing bits and rather sharp if you catch your feet on it.
