Bahia Principe Explore Akumal - All Inclusive

I have nothing to complain about as far as the hotel is concerned. The complex was amazing, the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. Excellent value for money and I would not hesitate to go back. So much choice of food with restaurants and buffet... something for everyone - plenty to do - beach and pool were gorgeous - fantastic place to stay!

Coming 2 transfers advertised by the hotel as a transfer company were appalling. They did not pick us up for the airport which resulted in an extra 1800 pesos (approx £78.00) having to be paid for a taxi!! We had prepaid Coming 2 and their representatives were very unsympathetic and not helpful at all. I guess they had taken their money so they didn't care!

This was a trip my new wife and I made for our honeymoon. We loved everything about the facility. The staff was awesome. We did an outing with Scuba Aquatic where we rode buggies thru the jungle to see the animals and swam in the caves. It was great!

Though the staff was literally awesome we did not prefer being hounded as soon as we entered the lobby about doing seminars about Bahia Principe that would award us discounts for entertainment. It was overwhelming.

Location, resort layout and set up, food. Cleanliness of grounds and maintenance of areas.

Room was tired, building work outside room at all hours and days, no hot water for first 3 days, restaurant booking almost to capacity and difficult to book.

We stayed here in 2019, really enjoyed it - that's why we returned in September 2023. The gardens are just wonderful, giving you the hint of the jungle, with agouti, white nosed coatis, and iguana wandering around, no danger. Rooms are very well appointed, spacious - drinks etc replenished each day as necessary. Beds comfy, a bath with a shower over - very good. The adult only infinity pool overlooking the sea lagoon is where I spent a lot of my holiday, the variety and number of fish more than when I went scuba diving!! There are a number of concerns which for certainly detract from everything that is good about the hotel - and I used to work in hotels - in no particular order 1 - the food on the restaurants, whether in the Akumal or the other restaurants in the entire complex have a lot of hot plates with containers of food which are not 'hot' but luke warm! - a potential for illness - and not an improvement on 2019. Food containers are not replenished quickly so often you have to make another choice or wait minutes. 2 - Noticeably this holiday, it was quite clear that drinks servers in the bars around the hotel were more eager to serve guests who were giving 'tips' not always Americans, irritatingly as this is supposed to be an all-inclusive hotel with no further costs. Does the hotel staff appreciate that the cost for UK guests is more than the American guests who have short flight/costs than UK guests where our flights will typically be twice that of the further American. 3 - the adult only infinity pool/bar often had very loud intrusive music - why?? If you crave such music that was available in the main family/children pool area - again why? Around the adult only area, impossible to just enjoy the ambiance in peace, or have a conversation, or listen to a pod cast because of this music. If having 'aqua aerobics' then music - but even then, turn it down arghhh 4 - Sports bar - very loud music - why??? there are many screens showing multiple sports, all without commentary - very good. But again no need for the very loud music which seemingly could not be turned down - hotel policy??? 5 - Air conditioning - our bedroom suffered from malfunctioning A/C but which was soon rectified - very good.

Administration generally terrible. I was chased to pay and neither the hotel or booking.com responded to my various requests for clarification (booking.com suggested pay on arrival, yet hotel repeatedly said pay in advance or you lose the room. Couldn’t access the App until we arrived, which meant all the restaurants were already booked out.

The best thing about this property was the INCREDIBLE staff. They really made our stay 10x better. We spent most of our time around the adult pool and it was wonderful

We were very disappointed by the food with the exception of the los corales restaurant in the adult section. The beds were very hard we got moved to another room because there was a water issue with our first room so we tried two king size beds.
