The staff went out of their way to be helpful.

It was a little expensive.

"suitable for our needs"

9.0

The Sunday Roast was superb. The staff were very helpful. We were walking the South Downs Way and nothing was too much trouble for them.

It was a shame that the pub was closed on the night.

"Friendly stay with comfortable rooms"

10.0

We loved the little fridges in our rooms and the breakfast choice. Excellent service and packed lunches were a great idea.

Honestly? Nothing. More community owned pubs should do what you do.

"People working there were nice & food was good."

4.0

We booked various places to stay along our South Downs Way hike. The people working there were very helpful & friendly. The food was good & we had a roast as it was a Sunday on a May Bank Holiday weekend. The twin beds were comfy & the rooms were ok.

After a long walk of 20K along the South Downs Way it would have been good to know that the pub closed at 5pm completely on the Sunday of our arrival & wasn't opening again on the Monday, which being the May bank holiday was a surprise. We felt rushed to order food as they were closing. We were given keys to get back in if we wanted to go elsewhere, but there isn't anything in the village to go to. Nearest town is a 15 min cab ride & had expected dip be able to sit in the pub for the evening. We didn't like the prospect of having to sit in the room after a days hike, as apart from the bed there wasn't anywhere to sit, so sat in the garden area at the side of the pub with an overpriced bottle of mediocre wine bought from the pub as there isn't anywhere else in the village to buy anything from. The breakfast which was included in the price, was already in the room & consisted of 2 inedible oat bars which were full of sugar, 2 tasteless yoghurts, 2 sugar loaded cereal boxes with no fresh milk but small UHT ampules, an apple & a kids carton of sugar loaded orange juice. Considering this was £175.00 per night stay I expected much more from the stay & also the breakfast which was more than disappointing in comparison to some of the other places along our route we stayed which were much less money, better equipped & came with a lovely breakfast. It is such a shame as it is a community owned pub & really needs to survive but they really need to up their game, I wouldn't book there again.

"Really liked the staff. Good facilities, terrible breakfast."

6.0

The staff were really welcoming and friendly. Nice room, clean, warm and good shower.

It was the most expensive accommodation we stayed in during our ten day trip walking the South Downs Way. I think it is overpriced. The only thing that lets the Bluebell down is the breakfast which is in the room and was a porridge pot, fruit yoghurt and breakfast bars. If they sorted out breakfast it would be a great.

Fine community pub. Good beer, good food. Nice staff.

Over priced. Breakfast in a box, taking advantage of location on SDW
