Breakfast was included and it was very good. We had fresh milk and water in fridge along with cherries, yoghurt, juice and meat. There were cakes also left for us. Every comfort was there in the cave. Simply stunning and there is also a veranda overlooking the Sassi. Listening to the church bells ringing just makes you happy.

It was a little tricky finding the "cave". I suggest you park in the public car park and catch the shuttle bus and get off at the 4th stop. The shuttle bus runs every 30 minutes from the top floor of the car park. Basically, you then proceed down the road into the historic centre until you reach La Nicchia nel Sasso Osteria. There is a glass fence around the Osteria which has a narrow pathway to its left. Proceed up the path and then turn right. Climb some further stairs and you will reach your destination.

This accommodation is superb. It is a beautifully renovated Sassi cave home, design and amenities are wonderful. The best part is the terrace overlooking Matera. The location is excellent. Hosts are very nice, helpful, and provided delish homebaked pastries, breakfast provisions and a welcome bottle of local vino! The hosts have created a fantastic custom web portal for the property that provides excellent information on the apartment, restaurants, sites, etc. They were helpful in organizing reservations, taxis, etc. This place is a stunner.

The walk with luggage from paid garage parking outside the ZTL is about 10 minutes on stone, steps and narrow alleys, as is typical of a hill town in Southern Italy.. but we made it and it was worth the effort to stay here.

Gianfranco provided us with a lovely welcome breakfast which was a nice suprise. This place has been renovated beautifully, and you can tell they have gone with high quality fittings etc. I booked it due to the terrace views and this did not disappoint. Our first night there we enjoyed dinner on the terrace and the stunning city views. Matera itself is an incredible city visually and wonderful to walk around and explore. There is also the lovely walk down to the creek and across the bridge to head up to the caves etc. We were given perfect instructions by Gianfranco regarding the parking and shuttle. We would love to go back and spend more time in this beautiful place.

The best place I stayed in Italy. A perfect place in Matera. The cave was novel experience. The view from terrace was incredible.

I cannot recommend this place enough. The views are spectacular, with a fantastic location.The bathroom has a spa like feel with its huge shower in the cave and hammam sauna. Gian Franco was a great host he responded to any questions quickly, and assisted with restaurant reservations. He also arranged for the restaurant next door to serve a meal to us on the terrace. This was a real treat, very intimate with the breathtaking views.The breakfast was amazing, from a well stocked fridge to home made cakes and local bread.
