"Beautiful room with lovely hosts in a great location"

8.0

Beautiful location and surroundings, very quiet area though right in the centre of Bakewell

Walking down the street for breakfast, not a problem as was lovely weather, but would have been different if it was raining

"Disappointing in the extreme"

3.0

Comfortable beds, nice towels, decent breakfast

Our stay was not at Garden Rooms - we were moved to Avenue House because of a water leak, so this review relates to my experience of that property. I found the entrance hall quite dark and dismal, the bannister on the stairs wobbled quite alarmingly, the room, although large was sparsely furnished with nothing but a rail for clothes storage. It was a cold day but the heating was not on and there was no soap in the washbasin dispenser. Minor problems maybe, but shows a lack of care, as does the lack of a response to my message to the owners pointing these things out. I find many of the reviews hard to understand - I did not find the decor ‘quirky and modern’: the entire place looked like it had been furnished from a house clearance, so ‘quirky’ maybe, ‘modern’ not. I appreciate this a matter of personal taste but to me this was not a £120 room by any stretch - we stayed at The Mill in Chester for much less 2 nights previously and that was in a completely different league of comfort, service and general pleasantness. Supply and demand presumably but I find it puzzling that on the same Sunday night I could stay at the The Tower hotel in London for similar money - a high quality hotel in an excellent location in LONDON - not known for its bargain hotel prices. Judging by other reviews perhaps our experience was an exception, and perhaps the Garden Rooms would have been more to my liking, but I’ll never know because after this I would not take the chance on that being OK

"Large but expensive"

7.0

Large comfortable room but the bathroom had a musty smell and there were many cobwebs in the room, felt a little neglected. We had to leave too early to have breakfast, would have been good to have a different option for breakfast. Only would be value for money with breakfast included. The garden looked nice and I'm sure would be a great space to stay in the summer.
