Camp Almanor at Big Springs

Kind and knowledgable camp hosts.

Very small cabin, not ideal for tall people. Also, the camp is situated right at the lake, but it has no lake access. Big disappointment. Unfortunately , while we were staying at the cabin, the wildfires picked up in the park and the air quality became dangerously polluted. We had to cut our stay short due to the ash in the air, and had to leave the area as soon as possible. The owner was not willing to refund any of the unused nights, only offered one night free stay in the near future if we wish to return, which, needless to stay will not happen.

Cute cabin (#10) with all the amenities and a view of the lake. Camp host Patty was welcoming and friendly and provided recommendations for lake access and restaurants.

Our cabin did not have air conditioning, which was a little uncomfortable during the warm days. Several windows and fans in the cabin helped keep it cool, especially at night.

The location is good. There is a road and row of lakeside houses between Camp Almanor and the lake. There was a decent view of the lake from our balcony and the windows of our unit (#12 Chalet). The Camp is in a good area, surrounded by tall trees, and farther down the lake there are wonderful views with mountains. Lake access is very limited. To get to the water, you need to drive several miles to a small gravel beach. The Dyer View Day Use area on the other side has better beach access. Patty the manager was very welcoming and helpful.

Our cabin heater was too noisy. Patty responded quickly to our request for space heaters as an alternative.

Easy self check in. A very friendly staff person came around to make sure we had everything. The cabin looks rustic on the outside but very nice inside and amazingly had a well stocked kitchen for such a small space. We loved the outdoor deck with a peek a boo view of the lake. Very peaceful surroundings with a community fire pit and game area.

There is no lake access nearby if that is an issue. Also, not many restaurants.
