No hot water for shower, Room was poor , would not stay again

The staff were very welcoming and the bed was very comfortable, I had 2 cracking nights sleep. The cooked breakfast was good and filling, sorted me out for the day.

There is a lack of parking, only at the front of the hotel which is actually the high street. The room I had, had minimal lighting, but this can be expected for a hotel of its age.

Clean and comfortable

The shower was poor and the water took ages to warm up but it’s an old property so not really surprising

Breakfast was good and served fresh and promptly. The room and environment were quiet overnight and the staff very friendly. Lovely view from the room of Buckden Towers.

There were a few odd smells in and around the room, probably from cleaning products but not all were pleasant. The sleeping area was fine in this regard.

The bed was comfortable and the location was good.

The whole place needs a deep clean, the room itself was fine but the carpets on the stairways and the outside courtyard need attention.

(Most of) the staff and location are lovely. They were super apologetic about the issues with our first room. The pizza on our 2nd night was nice - a half calzone half pizza which was fun. Would recommend that! Loads of parking too.

Staff - One member of the staff on the Friday night seemed to be drunk and kept bringing their friends down the corridor by our room to chat loudly despite being one of the members to help me get into the room so knew we were in there. Rooms - The first room had no electricity running due to a fuse being switched off earlier in the day. The staff member who helped get into the room just left me in there knowing there was no light(?!). I waited too long for the chef to come sort it so fixed it myself. We then discovered the mirror had fallen off the wall in the bathroom and smashed over the floor. We were moved to the room over the hall however someone had clearly been sick in there the night before as the carpet was still wet with cleaning solution and smelt. As we had our dog with us we only had the options of these two rooms so couldn't change again. Note if you're staying in the pet friendly rooms (19 and 20) you are right by the toilets of the pub so hear all the drunk chat and the Saturday night DJ
