Great location, lovely breakfast that’s served at the local cafe, clean rooms, comfy beds, helpful staff.

We stayed at the weekend and was unaware of the live music on a Friday and Saturday night, so having gone for a quiet weekend we were a little disappointed, the loud music was played until around midnight, if this was highlighted anywhere we would not have booked, that was the only gripe apart from that a perfect stay.

Excellent, when we were the only visitors the provision is to have breakfast at the Cafe over the road 30 seconds away, great selection and variety of food.

You can't improve the quaintness of the place, but this contributed on an unlevel bed, but all good for the weekend we stayed.

Nothing not to like

The location is great; the centre of an historic village. The view from our window over the village centre was lovely. The staff were very personable and helpful. Breakfast were very good.

It is obvious that upgrading the bedrooms is crucial if the price is to be maintained. The rooms were clean, no problem there, but the decor certainly needs a lot of work if the hotel is being promoted as advertised...old, mismatched furniture, lights that didn't work. It is fine for maybe one night but would suggest considering booking a one bedroom cottage for a longer stay.

From start to finish it was such a great experience. We stayed in the Wordsworth room which had a gorgeous four poster bed and free standing bath in the room. The bed was super comfy and the room nice and clean. Loved that breakfast was included; it was a decent sized portion and such a variety. The manager, Will, was really kind and accommodating. It started to snow while we were there and he went above and beyond to make sure we were okay getting back.

Nothing I didn’t like

From the moment you walk in there’s such a warm welcome . The pub felt so Christmassy, we had a delicious mulled wine and mince pie beside the fire . The roast dinner , sticky toffee pudding & breakfast were delicious. We stayed in the lord Byron room overlooking the square . The 4 poster bed was super comfy . We went for a short break before Christmas, little walks with our dogs which were made very welcome and a lovely carol service at the priory topped everything off . This is a beautiful unspoilt little English town , and the heart of it is the kings arms . Big thankyou to Jane the manager too , and the super staff , if every business had a manager like this lovely lady, there’s would be a success too . Definitely 10/10 .

The staff were amazing, so friendly couldn't be any more helpful. The food was amazing, lots of it on the plate well worth the price (which was decent as well) the menu was small which was good cause it wasn't overwhelming trying to decide food. The bedroom was small but loved it, for me it was a perfect size. The bed was amazing amazingly comfy

The lights in the bedroom constantly flickering gave us headaches , the TV was temperamental often no signal. The electrics seriously need an upgrade in this old building. The racecourse car park is £10 for overnight stays
