Hotel Diosa del Agua Bacalar

Property is new, just in front of a nice green park. Allan, the manager, was very helpful. He booked us last minute on a boat tour over the lagoon.

Some parts of the hotel are still under construction (like the restaurant), but it did not bother us.

The hotel and staff were both fantastic. The room was beautiful and very clean. The hotel helped me book a catamaran trip on the lake that was wonderful.

There is a lot of construction! It was unfortunately on both sides and above my room. It started in the morning and continued all day. Not much that can done about that. The parking can get tight lol.

The location was in the heart of everything. I missed breakfast.

The hotel needs more parking space and loose gravel at the entrance needs to be addressed my husband and daughter slipped and fell.

The location is close to a beautiful dock of the lagoon. The staff really tries to be helpful and welcoming. Variety at the breakfast (a la carte)

We had Termites in the room!! Inside the wood above the bed. They changed our room but in the new one it smelled like mildew. The whole room was very dusty, the sheets weren't clean and there were spider webs in the shower.

The hotel very beautiful and clean. The crow was amazing, many thanks for the crow that helped in kindness 💙

Why did I complain? We rated at this hotel one year ago and everything was delightful & restful. This year we made a reservation several weeks before our stay. We had free cancellation until 1 week prior to the stay. Two days before we were due to show up I received an email that simply said, “There will be construction from 8am to 8pm.” We have stayed at many hotels who are actively renovating and usually don’t have an issue with some noise. I emailed back and was assured everything was open and the disruption would be minimal. We showed up and there was an entire new building in construction behind the pool with literally 20 men building, welding, painting, etc. We did not want to lose money on the stay so after being reassured they would be done by late afternoon we moved into the room. I cannot emphasize enough how loud the construction then became. The walls were shaking. Also, we couldn’t use the pool because the new construction was adjacent to the pool and bits of metal and debris were actively falling into the pool water. We left the premises until around 9pm (went swimming in the lake & ate dinner) and when we came back the construction was still in full swing. Again we were reassured they would finish soon. They continued working until midnight! And then at midnight a loud truck backed up to nearly our front door and deposited approximately 100 pieces of luggage in the parking lot in the middle of the night. In what world is this normal behavior for a hotel? No one in our party slept more than 4 hours. The next morning we discovered that a Chinese film production was going to be using the hotel that day, and all the construction and noise was in build-up to that. My question is: why did they allow other guests to even stay in the hotel knowing it was going to be so disruptive? Why not just cancel our reservation? Even with a 30% refund I am supremely frustrated at their bizarre behavior.
