Shasha Lodge, Mabalingwe Game Reserve

We stayed 3 nights at Shasha Lodge. The setting is peaceful and the house is lovely, with beautiful surroundings — it definitely has potential. However, the experience was let down by several issues. The online photos seem outdated, and the property didn’t match what we expected based on the listing. Maintenance and cleanliness were poor, the jacuzzi didn’t work, and we also couldn’t fully slide open the large glass doors from the living room to the braai area. We experienced heavy rains for one or two afternoons and the kitchen/dining area flooded. The braai was in poor condition and far too small despite the accommodation being for 15 guests, and the kitchen wasn’t properly equipped for a group of that size. We also booked a game drive vehicle, but it was in poor condition and got stuck, which was disappointing and inconvenient. We had frogs and squirrels, and other creatures getting inside as well. Communication from the agent we booked through was also poor, which made it difficult to resolve issues during the stay. Overall, it’s a beautiful, quiet place, but it needs better maintenance, improved cleaning, updated listing photos, and clearer communication to justify the group capacity.

The accommodation was perfect and our host was super nice and accommodating.
