Black Ship Sapa

Spectacular location with beautiful views. We had wall to wall corner windows - amazing. Lovely pool overlooking the fields and really cute details - swings, charming lamps, gorgeous plants, etc. Food was made to order and delicious. Shower had good water pressure and heat. Very friendly and accommodating staff that were always happy to help, but also respected your privacy. This is the perfect place to escape and enjoy the rhythm of village life within the comforts of hotel living.

We liked everything! However, you should know that this is more hill station retreat than "luxury resort" - and that's a great thing!! It's about 40min from Sa Pa by car and our ride only barely made it. Also some of the nearby roads are currently washed out... So you should likely plan to stay at the resort - not be zipping back and forth to town and on day trips. This means all your meals will be at the hotel restaurant (affordable and yummy), your days will be spent there, and you'll need to slow down, watch the ducks (and roosters and goats and pigs and cute local kids...) and relax. If that's what you're looking for this is absolutely the place!!

This place was amazing, the views and facilities were great incredible! The staff were very lovely, we got off a night bus and headed to the accommodation at 9am and they allowed us to check in early which was very much appreciated. The room was very comfortable and had lots of space, the balcony and chairs were very relaxing to sit on.

The only possible bad thing would be the location as it is bumpy to get to in on scooter, but without this location you wouldn’t get the views so very much worth it!

the place is simply amazing. we lived right in a rice field. the views are simply fantastic. but we had a hard time getting there. The road was bad and bumpy, the taxi skidded several times, in the end it didn’t get up to the top and we walked up the mountain with our suitcases. When you book a taxi, take a jeep. The staff is friendly, but not active on WhatsApp and does not respond to messages. My husband and I didn’t know English, but they were understanding. For entertainment, it's a walk around the village and its surroundings. At night the frogs croak loudly, very loudly. take earplugs. The husband constantly tripped over the edge of the bed; the bed's podium is located close to the stained glass windows. be careful. The breakfasts are not very filling, it wasn’t enough for us, we are used to a lot of food for breakfast. There are no shops around, so take snacks, fruit, and wine with you. There is beer in the hotel. Be sure to come to this hotel, this is an amazing place!

Loved its spectacular location overlooking the cascading rice paddies and the fact that it is so off the beaten track.

Hardly anything … The bathroom electric light above the basin still needed to be fitted.

Black Ship is incredible, what a location! Quan (Nickname was T, We believe he was the manager?) and his team made our trip just perfect, from providing drinks and food, arranging tours to being just lovely people we happily chatted to regularly. The location is so special, the view over the rice paddies is so worth the commute from town. Whilst a taxi from town is roughly 25mins and 350KDong/$20AUD one way could be deemed a bit expensive, the point of the Black Ship is peace and quiet, so not really meant to be day tripping to Sapa town. Still it's not costly for a 25min journey. The food is classic Vietnam food, with options of Hotpots, BBQ or more common dishes and all cooked to a great quality. If you are looking to visit Sapa, be out of town in the peace of the paddy fields, experience Vietnam and do local walks then Black Ship is for you.

One thing to consider is we accidentally booked a room above the restaurant, whilst they are just fine, the Bungalows are the showstopper, with open air bath tubs and open views. So HIGHLY recommend booking one of those. We can imagine the rooms above the restaurant could potentially get noisy in the evening if the hotel was full and you wanted an early night.

The staff are truly incredible at the Black Ship. They work so hard, and are so friendly. They go above and beyond to help you and make it a memorable stay. The room was beautiful and the views are spectacular. I hope to return again one day.
